What would you do?

Ok, some drunk fuck just plowed my fence on the side of my house and took out two sections about an hour ago. I made a police report and all that good shit. Pretty sure I know who it is, some guy that lives on the culdesac across from us. He drives a late 60's Camaro and lights it up about every time he leaves his circle. His car is LOUD as shit. Neighborhood kid rang my doorbell and said he was out smoking and saw everything and described the car. As soon as he said where the car came from I knew exactly who it was. See, smokers aren't so bad..

1. Should I claim it on my homeowners or come out of my pocket? Pretty sure it's going to cost at least $ 12-1500. Yeah, ultimately I would like numbnuts to pay for it but I want it fixed ASAP.

2. Would you press charges on said dipshit or as long as he pays for it let it go?

Did you list smoking neighbor as a witness on your report? His account is most relevant to the unfortunate situation.

Thats just it, I have 2 kids and a wife to think about. I really don't want any problems. My deductable is a small price compared to any future problems this could cause.

if the guy didn't knock on your door within the last hour.

I would call the cops and press charges. Plus take pictures, and have that kid talk to the cops right away. That way they can test the guy for DUI.

If you file your homeowners, usually, they will sue the guy's insurance for the money back. I can't remember if its going to hurt you payments.

Give the police facts, not speculation or hearsay... file the report and decide based on estimate to make a claim or not.

On the down low, shit has a way of going bump in the night and working out eventually

Get the witness to put it writing and signed. Give the drunk fuck till tomorrow to confess. If the drunk fuck does not fess up, approach said drunk fuck, tell him you have a witness. If that doesn't work, call the police and give them the witness.

Fuck that guy, obviously he was drunk and your willing to not create a problem for him, like getting a DUI. I think you have done your nice guy deed for the day. Now it's time for the drunk fuck to pay up!!

Married life has made me a good, law abiding(for the most part ) citizen. 10 years ago I would of walked over to his house and put a firearm upside his head.

I leave for work in 45 min. so we'll see what happens later today and I highly doubt he has the stones to come over and confess. Pretty sure his car has damage to it though.

You won't get a DUI without evidence, and by that time he can be sober. It's a losing proposition. Just make sure it costs him more then it would have normally...

I say Revenge is a dish best served cold. Let the situation pass, stay quiet so he thinks everything is cool, maybe mention the incident to him in passing but state you don’t know who it was, and also say it doesn’t matter as long as the house wasn’t damaged. Plan your revenge, and when the fuck least expects it spring the trap and fuck his world up man....

Just remember to plan your revenge well enough so to leave no evidence he can go to the cops with.

Not that i would EVER do or condone such a thing mind you.

Daryl I'd try approaching him about it first, not in a threatening way, more of a "look, I'm not going to the police first so we can take care of this personally" way. See how he reacts and take it from there. He may be thankful you didn't take it to the law and work something out with you.

I'm going to wait and see if this guy knocks on my door and offers to pay. When the cop was making the police report last night we seen a truck leave the same driveway the Camaro is from. I'm sure someone went to pick up said drunk so he could park the car while things cool off. Also there was another guy on the side of the garage smoking from the same house. After the report was made the cop circled their culdesac so I'm sure dude knows we know where he lives.

I'm not trying to get anyone in trouble, lord knows we all have done stupid shit in our time, I just want my fence replaced.

X3. It's just a fence. It's not like he did anything to your family, or had bad intentions.

Besides, Johnny law is already involved, making you an easy suspect for any serious revenge.

I'd talk to the dude and let him know that someone saw it. You gotta live near him so being civil is probably best. I'd also have big ass rock put infront of the fence so it doesn't happen again.

You are past the point of trying to work it out after the cops get info. Lay low now and see what pans out. After things develop you can play the "good neighbor" card and say you didn't know it was him. If you go over there now you run the risk of escalating the situation and you will look very guilty at HIS place of residence.

Got home from work and my 13 yo son (missed the bus ) tells me the guy(drunk) rang our doorbell at 8:30 this morning and handed him a letter and was very apologetic.

Basically says I'm really sorry for hitting your fence last night and I would like to come over and fix it for you. Please call me at your earliest convenience.

I'm going to let the guy fix it and be clear up front that I want the shit done right or he's paying to get it done right. I'm not going to get the law involved anymore then they have and I would think the way I handle it would be my discretion. Biggest inconvenience for us is that our 2 dogs can run freely right now.
