Talking Fooking Union Pacific.

I totally blame Dave for this.

Got held up by an Union Pacific train today for 20+ freaking minutes. (engine number 1430 if Dave would like to know).

Got to the crossing behind 3 cars when the gates came down. Train (maybe 10-12 cars with 2 engines) started backing up across the road to hook up with more cars. No biggie. usually they are moving within a few minutes every other time I come across this situation.

Well they back up. The clown who was coupling the cars apparenty couldnt figure it out. He was between the cars for 5 minutes. The when he finally came out, he walked his fat ass back to the loco. Not a normal pace walk, but a slow looking for pennies on the groud type walk. Uh dude put some step into it. You may drop the 75lbs it looks like you need to. Once he got into the cab, they proceeded to SIT and do nothing for 10 min. Uh hello, big line of cars sitting here. When he finally started moving, he took his sweet ass time. Then he decided to stop when the car that was the last one before adding more. thats the point I said fuck it, did a u-turn and went totally out of my way by 6 miles (middle of the country). Hell I pulled out of Wendy's (on the road the train was blocking, but on the other side) and the guy that was behind me early just came through. Took me about 15 min to do the bypass and get my order from Wendy's. So basically the train blocked the road for at least 30 min.

Rant over.

Its all your fault Dave.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

As much as I love to see Dave13 blamed for EVERYTHING, he was not at fault this time. He was still home when you were blocked.

There is a UP1430 and a UPY1430. I'm guessing you bumped into the Y1430. It's a 4 axle gp38-2 equipped with ATC. It is designed to work in the block signal system on the Milwaukee subdivision. It's a great engine, I have ran from it a few times. Where did all of this take place? Oh, and as for the conductor taking his sweet ass time, some of us, er, I mean them, are known to "fuck the dog". And I used to not give a shit about blocking road crossings, until I had a pedestrian cut through my train, and when the train moved, they lost a foot.

If it was near S. Beloit, IL blocking Prairie Hills Rd, then thats the one. Just the number on the side was 1430. No letters around it. Other engine was 13something.

And what kind of moron cuts between train cars?

I know in Janesville we have a real fun train spot (known as the 5 points). Roundhouse and yard right next to the intersection. Cops have issued tickets a few times that I know of to the train company (WI Southern I think) for blocking the roads for too long. Its a real problem here since ambulances heading to the hospital from the south side/ south east side cross here to get to the hospital.

And yes its always Daves fault.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

The UP1430 is a SD60 (I think). It's an old road engine, I have used that one too. It is a "shuttle set" between Proviso (my yard) and Janesville. I have seen a ton in my short time on the rr. One guy ran right in front of my engine so he didn't have to wait for the train to go by. I only had two engines, no train. I would have cleared him in 4 seconds. Is it worth it?

And you have it wrong. It's all Shelly's fault, not mine.

My whole neighborhood is surrounded by railroad tracks so I encounter this type of situtation at least 3-4 times per week. I start to bitch and then I remember that the railroad indirectly keeps me employed so I sit there happily and wait until the train passes. I still blame Dave though.

It's the railroad's property and they just let cars pass over it (at crossings) when they are not using it...

people tend to forget that factoid.

Arch is right. The railroad was there before the roads were. And the law is a train cannot be STOPPED on a road crossing for more than 10 minutes. If they are going back and forth and/or moving they can occupy that crossing indefinitely.

Jeff, you just need to move EAST of the tracks.....

Those CN (former Grand Trunk Western) tracks are always holding things up by the Cemeteries.

It's where they cross the CSX (B&O CT) tracks at 139th Street where things get banged up. I guess when they put the tracks in back in the 1850's and 1860's, there wasn't so much development around here.

I am qualified in that area and commonly take trains through there. Sadly, the last conductor death happened at the CSX Barr yard location a few weeks ago.

My cuz used to do some work as a dr at Alexian brothers hospital in elk grove and the stories I hear are so funny

I also have friends that are Roselle cops, and my older bro who is the asst fire cheif of Elgin always tell me some crazy fucking stories like some retard who was stoned off whatever and got off the train in Roselle. Well the retard couldn't wait for the train to move after the offload/onload and actually crawled UNDER the train cars. Then the train started moving. Lost half of 1 leg. They don't call it DOPE for no reason

...plus my gf was with me saying "omg slow down, slow down" and I was thinking "Lose annoying squalk box in passenger seat, afford more mods and have less weight in the car and on the back of the bike"...so i dumped her and I'm single again as usual...HERE KITTY KITTY!!!

Well I had to think if it was a GP38-2 with a roots blower or a SD40 with a turbo. Some people get lost when it comes to diesel engines. I know of some mechanics that cannot fix their own trucks because they are diesel.

It's the governments answer for keeping us all safe. They claim trains will never hit each other with that technology. Oh, it wouldn't have helped the two crews at my yard Saturday night. They "met" at the most traveled area in all of Chicago. Proving once again, two objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time.
