dress code

I'm planning to go to an event. The dress code is "a notch above business casual" What does that mean? What does business casual mean. In my business I wear uniforms.

a bowtie with the overalls, Jethro

Shirt and tie, safe then sorry, and you can always take the tie off. Where is the event at?

business casual should be a button down shirt and slacks. Business would be a suit, or at least a shirt and tie. I'd think the middle ground would be button down shirt and jacket but no tie or suit.

Business casual is usually slacks with a golf shirt or a button down shirt.

A notch above would most likely be pants with cuffs, button down long sleeve shirt, and a sports coat (which you can take off immediately).

At least, that is how I would plan to dress for that description.

Have fun at the event

This. However, I always wear a tie with a suit jacket. The sport coat sans tie doesn't work for me.

+1 Sport coat gives it that one notch above. Slacks, tie, and shirt only is soooooo college-like.

I basically never wear a tie even to business meetings anymore.

Amen to that. My girlfriend bought me 2 shirts last weekend that had collars and buttons all the way down and short sleeves. Ugh. I told her I'd have to grow a ponytail to wear those shirts.

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
