Ex-wifes car

My ex wife is using a car that is under my name. She recently paid it off and soon I'll get the title (with my name on it). She wants to sell the car and she wants me to sign the title and give it to her (before she sells it). I trust her to some extend ... but she did divorce me so I cant really trust her like I did.
And now the question is should I do it. I know that it will be more convenient for both of us, but I have a bad feeling about it. What can go wrong? Do I take any risk? (she drives the car any way for last 1.5y) Should I do it o tell her
The right thing to do would be to meet the buyer (when she finds one) and sell it to him in person ... I know that ...
What do you think

If she paid for it/paid it off the right thing is to give her the title...since she did the work to pay off the loan (possibly using your alimony? haha)

No sense pissing off an ex... you never know when they might get bored and want to return the favor.

Now... the real definition of Mixed Emotions is your Ex wife driving off a cliff in YOUR new car.

Why don't you want to sign it over to her? If you want to be a dick about it you could sell it yourself.

Are you expecting to get a part of the money once it's sold? If not, I don't see a reason not to sign it and give her the title. Make a copy of it though for extra protection.

I don't want anything out of it. After the divorce we both took our cars and continue to pay for them separably. And no, I don't want to be a dick. I was just worried of the legal side (tax relataed or responsibility issues), to be honest I don't know. Thats why I'm asking.

You will not get more than you paid for the car (depreciating asset), so there is no profit and no tax. Buyer pays sales tax in IL (depending on year of vehicle).. there is a Dept of Rev form at the DMV they have to fill out when they apply for title/plates.

She is a hot bitch But pics will not help And we divorced over a year ago.

What about speeding tickets from cameras or red light cameras. The car is still mine so the tickets will be issued under my name. I'f she has the signed title she might not want to pay them ... thats just an ex.

Since you don't want anything for the car, sign it over as fast as possible. Since there is no note on the car she could cancel the insurance, wreck the car and you are on hook. When you/she sell the car be sure to go with the buyer to the currency exch to transfer the title. Don't ask why I know this.
edit after reading the above. When you sign the title be sure to transfer it to her name. THEN you are in the clear.

Once you sign it over she needs to get new plates. Plus you have the paperwork proving you sold the car. Not your problem then.

Can the camera show you were driving the car? Then you should not be liable if you snitch and tell them who was driving via the Administrative appeals process.

I thing I didn't explain it enough. She doesn't want to buy the car from me because she would have to pay tax, plates fees and get her own insurance. She wants to have the sign title so when she finds a buyer she want need me to sell it.

AND MAKE HER TRANSFER IT TO HERSELF. you don't want her to have an accident, and your name to still be on title, it just gives them 1 more person the sue, the car owner!

Sign it over to her with a bill of sale. This way your ass is covered. She doesn't have to transfer the title to herself or anything but at least you have a bill of sale saying the car isn't yours any more.

I'm not really sure how it works. Are you saying that she doesn't need to get new plates or pay tax? There is another problem, she still uses my insurance (I agreed as long as the car will be under my name). In that case she would have to change it, yes?

No, she makes deposits on my account for payments for the car (not anymore since she paid it of) and for the insurance ... but I'm the one who sends the check. And that way I still have multiple policy discount and her insurance is cheaper too. And btw, my allstate agent knows about it.

Sign the title to her. Get a Bill of Sale signed by both of you. Have her get her own Insurance as of the date the title is signed over. Then cancel your insurance on that car after you no longer legally own it.

keep copies of all documents for at least 3 years.

But she doesn't want to do that.

I have two options:

1. be nice, sign the title WITHOUT the date, and hand it over to her

2. be a dick, give her unsigned title, and tell her to see me when she'll find the buyer
