Another biker down

I'm working in Atlanta this week. Got back to my room to receive the news that a former co-worker died on a motorcycle this week.

Authorities have released the name of a 37-year-old Illinois man who was killed Tuesday evening after a hitting a rock wall during a motorcycle accident on Little River Road in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

According to a release from the Park, Shazad Haider, Huntley, Ill., was riding his motorcycle west on Little River Road with three friends. When the three were about one mile from Townsend at about 5:45 p.m., Haider “lost control of the motorcycle, failed to negotiate a turn and hit a rock wall,” Park spokeswoman Nancy Gray said Tuesday.

Haider — who was reportedly wearing a helmet at the time of the accident — was taken by Rural/Metro Ambulance Service to Blount Memorial Hospital. He was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital, the Park release said.
I'm not sure I remember what kind of bike he rode, and I don't know if he was on CLSB, as I left the company we both worked at in 2003. I remember talking with him about motorcycles and about his taking the MSF course before getting a bike, and his excitement when he completed the MSF and got his M license a few years back.

He was a good person.

RIP, Friend.

Let's all be careful out there.
