I can't really think of a more dangerous race. Cool to watch, but if you crash, the outcome would be grim at best.

I used to blast up and down the Black Forrest with music like that... it makes you a better driver...
My friend lives on a hilltop and the road up there was used to be used as a mountain race track. The last races were in the mid 70s. from what we could find out, we cut in 2002 their time by 20 to 30 sec. on a 5min run...

I love this kind of roads and going fast on them, thats like sex for me.
Thinking of it, it was stupid and cracy... and we should have never done anything like that...

I had an interesting conversation with a psychology major once about motorcycle racing and the people who participate in such activity. She had the most interesting spin on "risk taking"...She said that those who think the participants have a death wish are completely wrong. That the risk takers actually have a "life wish" because they are taking it to the very edge because they want to experience life to the absolute fullest.
The Isle of Man is one of those events I've only been able to experience from film and video. Had I been able to do it, I'm sure I would have...I don't see much difference between the risks there and the risks I routinely took racing flat track in the '70's.
As for sidehacks...I'd prefer being pilot to being passenger...And... not to disparage the guys in the video...I think the Aussie sidecar speedway racers put on a better show because they run within inches of each other.
Do they still have hacks at Road America as a side show to the AMA races?

I seen something where the sidecar guys are WOT 80% of the lap, compared to the superbikes which are WOT 10% of the lap.

Actually I agree totally. The closer you get to death the closer you are to living, which is why I've done some of the things I've done in my life and I wouldn't trade them for the world, despite being hurt many times. Death wish is such a cliche anyways. A better way of describing it would be a lack of concern for consequences while doing what you love.

I remember the sidecars at RA a while back. Pretty interesting to see for sure.

GET OUT OF MY HEAD.....ALL OF YOU!!!

I took a client out to lunch yesterday and we were talking about this exact topic - Our last meeting I came in on Crutches so of course this one started out with "I see you are better...."- When I said I was bummed that tomorrow's track day was canceled but I am making it up by riding Dirt Bikes, I was given a look like I had a big ole booger hangin out the beak - So, the convo came to the point of "Living vs not living and dyeing inside" kind of thing

Him - Aren't you scared you are going to hurt yourself or even worse....die?

Me - I am more scared to go through life without living at all

Him - You are crazy and have a death wish

Me - Exact Opposite, I have a life wish and feel truly alive when I push it to the edge

Him - Pffft, what's next....SKYDIVING!!!! (said with huge sarcasm)

Me - Maybe after Race Season is over

If you have been riding long enough, we have all had these types of conversations with other people - I just found it funny that I just had this one yesterday and the term "death wish" was used

I think I might go play in traffic on a long board now too - I AM CRAZY AND HAVE A DEATH WISH!!!

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming WOW, what a RIDE !!"

An amusing comment, considering how many times I've seen sidecar races and the passengers in the hacks were women!
Alot of husband & wife teams competing in this.
