Biker thrown from bike on dan ryan onto 27th

http://www.suntimes.com/news/24-7/23...iker25.article

Quote:
A Far South Side man was seriously injured when he lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown about 200 feet off the Dan Ryan Expy. before landing on a street below on the South Side Sunday night.

Dennis D. Belt, 29, was riding with a group of cyclists and reportedly weaving in and out of traffic at a "high rate of speed" when he made a lane change near 29th Street, lost control of his Suzuki and went over a bridge, police said.

Belt, who was wearing a helmet as he headed north on the Dan Ryan, went airborne 150 to 200 feet forward off the expressway and then about 75 feet down, landing on West 27th Street, police said.

He suffered severe injuries including multiple broken bones, internal injuries and "severe road rash," authorities said.

Belt, of the 2300 block of East 96th Street, was cited for improper overtaking and passing, and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash.

When I went airborne, it was only about 6 feet high, and 20 feet forward. That's like stubbing your toe compared to this guy.

Yeah same when I did a motorcycle-induced superman ... but I landed on soft ground, I bet his felt a lot longer than mine, but it did feel like I was in the air for a while.

It's wierd how it "seems" to take forever when you're flying. Mine was due to being thrown when a car turned left in front of me.

That explains why the northbound Express Lane bridge was shut down when I came through there that night headed south. Since I didn't see a car, or any other vehicle over the wall, I figured it must have been a bike.

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
