Wedding Anniversary Gifts

So our first anniversary is coming up and just wanted to get some opinions on gifts. Do people usually follow the whole concept of 1st anniversary is paper and 2nd is cotton,., 25th silver, and etc? Also, is the concept or stereotype of setting the bar too high the first year and having to out do yourself each year after or risking disappointing her apply in real life or is that just a TV thing?

I was thinking of getting her a 1st edition book from her favorite author, but a good copy is going to set me (us) back $600. I think she would really like it, but I am pretty sure I will not have such a great idea for anniversaries 2 through ??? If I do not go this route, I am not sure what to get her, we basically buy whatever we want, whenever we want, so there is nothing that she really wants/needs.

Oh, we are already going to Las Vegas for the anniversary and her birthday, but I thought that a nice gift should also be included.

Your thoughts? Hopefully some ladies will chime in too, as I can already predict what the guys will have to say.

Thanks

Greg

I thought the book was a great idea for a gift and it falls into the paper category.

Aren't those two essentially the same?

A first edition from one's favorite author shows a lot of time, thought and caring going into getting something FOR HER.

In return, you'll get a card and a 6 pack.

This.

But I prefer the phrase, "I don't get divorced, I get widowed."

I bought my wife Tapis Rouge tickets to Cirque for the first - took the paper tickets that said first row and had the print shop at work print them on a large printer - then framed it and hung it on the wall for her to find.

For the second one (cotton) I had her a custom T-shirt made - to replace a t-shirt she used to have (kind of an inside joke that wouldn't make sense here)

for 3 - it's supposed to be leather - but - dammit - I burned that one already by buying her that Dainese suit and having it customized for her - maybe I will take it back, have it custom fit by Alexa and re-gift it to her.

I don't know what 4 is yet - I'll think of something if I make it that far.

Doing a track day in Ohio on our 3rd anniversary - so... I might not

Sounds like you put some thought into the gifts and spend a few $.

LOL on the track day on your anniversary, at least you waited to the 3rd one. I signed up for the Warrior Dash which is on our anniversary weekend, she was not pleased, but I think we'll pull through.

I fall into the above category. (I'm also not married, so me chiming in doesn't really help, sorry.)

Since I tend to buy myself what I want, I like fun experiences to set things apart. Skydiving, Hot Air Balloon ride, something like that. I remember that more than jewelry I won't wear or a book that will get read once and put on a shelf. That's pretty cool as a collector item... but not something I'd want as a gift to make a day memorable. Then again, I'm weird.
Vegas for anniversary/birthday sounds fun- there's a lot of stuff you two can do together.

Since you are going to Vegas, get tickes to Cirque. They have the Beatles Love, and 6 other shows. It's such a romantic show, and something you will both remember forever.

I'd go somewhere. Could be a show, date, vacation, etc.

If she's into cool jewelry I got my wife a handmade ring this year...she loved it. I know the artist and she is super cool and reasonably priced. I got my wife the yellow ring in the top left photo.
