Appointments: why doesnt anyone keep them?

I totally lost my shit today at the doctor's office. I took time off work to see this guy about my hand, I showed up 15 minutes early, and signed in. There was no receptionist to greet me, and 1 patient ahead of me. The guy finally emerges, 20 minutes past MY appointment time, chatting with his patient about random social stuff, clearly not in any hurry to get back on schedule. Then calls the lady ahead of me and takes her back and he almost made it into the exam room with her when he decided to stop and ask me if I was next, to which I said "yes; my appointment time was 25 minutes ago." He says "I'm not sure how long this will be," to which I thought "your website says you've been doing this 20 years; you can't even guess how long this will take?!"

Last week my hairdresser made me wait 30 minutes and then took her sweet ass time giving me an hour and a half haircut (WAY too long), and now this. I've had it with this crap. Our pediatrician's office sees hundreds of kids a day and they are never ever ever late. It is so efficient!

So, I looked this doctor straight in the eye and said, "I'm going to have to go; I need to get to work." He looked at the appointment book and said, "well is there a time that's good for you?"
I said, "11:30 was good for me, and what we had agreed on. Unfortunately, I am going to have to find another chiropractor who respects my time." And I walked out. If he can't even apologize for being late, he doesn't get my business. Period.

Does anyone else do this? Or do you put up with the lateness? I can't believe it took me 33 years of life to finally put my foot down on this crap.

I only wait for 2 doctors. One is my gyne, he has to deliver babies sometimes, and is worth waiting for. The other is Abi's Hematologist. Finding one that is good with kids, and that can keep her from bleeding all the time is worth the wait. We take a good book, or a puzzle/activity book to pass the time. His nurses always have snacks for the kids when they come in, so that keeps her happy.

I don't ride, I cook!

I wait for my OB and for other surgeons. After all, they do deal with actual emergencies.
But I'm sick of waiting for hairstylists, waxers, primary care doctors, mechanics, you name it. I'm done! Really, from now on I'm taking my business elsewhere.

Dude seriously society these days has no respect for being punctual or other peoples time. Funny too, the people who can't be responsible enough to keep commitments are the ones who complain about not being able to find a decent job

Actually, aestheticians are generally punctual and expect the same. Hairstylists are notoriously late.

I just don't f*ucking get it. M-F, 8-5-- YOU'RE working....so what makes you think I'M not?!?!?! I'm here, at your office, becuase it was a time mutually agreed upon by both parties as being acceptable. If that has changed, you should call me. You've got my number! You've got everything about me-- my ssn, birthdate, mother's name, last time I pooped ... seriously, what's with all the information on those forms anyway? If Obamacare would fix that, I'd be on board.

An automated schedule tracker should catch this and text / email or robo call the upcoming patients of the time delays.

You can only blame me because I wasn't asked to program one by a healthcare software provider.. therefore you have nothing that actually works in this capacity.

dentist actually lets you sit down on the teeth pulling recliner which has the tv.

But ya, your doctor is a douchebag in the way he's running a business.

I wasn't. 12 yrs ago someone in the healthcare software industry told me that idea was too 'niche', mainly to the finite number of yuppies who over schedule their lives.

Unless it's incredibly time sensitive, I won't schedule a doctor's appt. that isn't their 1st of the day or the 1st after lunch. With these slots your odds of them being on time is good.

People generally have little respect for your time and I refuse to wait.

My doctor put his patients first. He stops taking new patients from time to time, allows us same day appointments, and is very loose with a prescription pad.

I've very neurotic about being on time and get pissed at other's who aren't. I have to say though that doctors (i don't include chiropractors in that group) get a pass on that because of the job they do. Primary care docs have a lot of patients and are constantly being contacted and paged for things that need to be taken care of at that moment so if I'm in for a regular appointment I can understand if I have to sit there for 20 or 30 mins to see the doc. The call that the doc got from the hospital about a patient of theirs that he needs to handle is more important than my schedule.

My name is JB, people call me JB
