(Reuters) - Caffeine addiction is such a downer that regular coffee drinkers may get no real pick-me-up from their morning cup, according to a study by British scientists.

Bristol University researchers found that drinkers develop a tolerance to both the anxiety-producing and the stimulating effects of caffeine, meaning that it only brings them back to baseline levels of alertness, not above them.

Why not research the effects of NOT getting that morning cup for the addict? It's not bad at first, but then the loss of focus, and the headaches start.

<------ CAFFINE ADDICT!

I did cut back to one small cup per day in Iraq though. Dry instant from an MRE and a shot a water rocks!

Rob, unless they would have tested it, you wouldn't be able to tell for sure. Some things look obvious and "no shit, Sherlock" but they are actually not. Until Galileo got on that tower and started dropping objects, it was pretty obvious to everyone that a piece of cotton would fall slower than a droplet of lead. Around the same time it was damn obvious that Earth was flat and Sun was going around it.

Sure, when they test something obvious and confirm that "yeah, it really does work the way it looks like", it's kind of a downer. But that's what science is. You make a guess, come up with a theory, figure out the consequences/implications and test it. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't.

You're right. Tonight, I shall conduct a serious scientific inquiry into whether beer will actually get me drunk. All of my experience suggests it to be true, but I need to test theory to be sure, preferably with grant money.

but british people are really dumb people on youtube. I even watched British scientists studying CROPCIRCLES for 15 years, and still believe they are made by UFOs.

I'm fairly sure studies like that have been done before, so you're SOL . Besides, what's your theory to explain why beer wouldn't get you drunk?

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!
