Future retirement location

Just came back from a two week vacation to Oahu. It was hard to adjust back from the lazy island life. I've been there before and enjoy it more every time I come back. Bug was talking in his thread about living at Venice Beach made me think what it would be like living the beach life. I definitely give some respect to surfers after attempting to do it myself for the first time. Surfers make it look easy until you try it for yourself. I had many scarry moments where I thought that I'd never come up from under the wave. I also didn't realize how great of a workout it is to surf. I thought I was in a good shape, but I was smoked.
I think that the North shore would be the ultimate place to retire. I loved bodyboarding every day, and eating mahi sanwiches at all the small roadside stands. I think this time we covered the whole island and most of the beaches, but nothing beats the North shore. Next time I'm investing in a better lens to get better shots of surfers. I had to stand on the reef to get as close as possible.
I can't belive how big the waves get there during the winter time. I was scared of a 5' wave. I can't belive this guy surfed a 65' wave! He definitely has some balls to do this. There has to be no room for error doing stuff like this.

I heard people dying from surfing. I think its when the wave slams you into the ocean floor, besides the drowning

I'd rather retire someplace with a lower cost of living, so my funds can go farther and I can retire earlier...

My original plan was the florida keys

with:
  • a pair of shorts
  • a 3 day beard
  • a huge bag of weed
  • and a beach chair

but now I may have moved that to venice beach due to BP.

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

AWESOME Movie

Actually we went just past Sandy Beach To Makapuu Bach Park which had even better shore breaks. The picture which I have posted above with the light house is the place. That's where I spent the most time body boarding. Sandy beach didn't have much shade.
