Migration Map

This is pretty cool. You can click on individual counties and see inward/outward migration patterns.

Detroit is pretty funny.

Interesting trends. Many moving from East coast to Chicago, but many more leaving Chicago for the South and the West. Others are going to the East coast directly and then leaving for pretty much anywhere outside CA .

DC is popular, as is Atlanta. Seattle too.

I hear it is extremely expensive to live out there, well, visiting is not cheap either.

I think the data is 2008. Pre-'cane.

My guess is it's military support. Lots of people get stationed there (with their families) and then leave when their assignment is up. There are also lots of contractors out there who come and go on temporary (1-2 year) assignment. This is based on year-to-year IRS filings, so would obviously capture that data.

I wouldn't either if I could live there. I'm going back up there for my third summer in a row. Gorgeous country. Might move up their prior to the end of the world in 2012.

If I could convince the wife, I'd be there too. Never been there, but between yours and Grasshopper's pictures of it, I'm sold.

I'd be right there with you if I could convince my wife. I've been up there once and fell in love with the place.

I've had a few opportunities to go up there for work and I've taken them. I could pretty easily snag a job up there, but the Mister is afraid of the cold. Boo hoo.

I was up there in March and October. Not the dead of winter but not sunny summertime either.

Anchorage has weather similar to Chicago. Other parts of Alaska are much more harsh.

My dad said not to trust a man from LA, too many cheats & liars... but he said NEVER trust a man from Atlanta... They are the ones that lied, cheated, and stole so much in LA, they eventually got caught and had to move to ATL.

If I ever make enough money to live in Seattle, I'm moving here. Fantastically gorgeous place.
