No radar needed for Ohio speeding tickets...Supreme Court Ruled

Pretty absurd. I like how the other puts it...

"This has got to be the most asinine ruling I have ever heard. This kind of takes away from the judicial saying "Everyone is considered innocent until proven guilty." How in the world can you "prove" a guess?"

No Radar needed in Ohio - For Speeding Tickets
June 5, 9:27 AM

The Judiciary Annex - Ohio

The Supreme Court in Ohio ruled Wednesday, June 2, that visual estimates on speed can be used without any "proof" such as radar guns - to write speeding tickets.

So, to be clear on this let's look at the definitions of both words. Visual - done, maintained, or executed by sight only. Estimates - to calculate approximately.

As long as the Ohio police officer has been "trained" in visual estimates - or my definition - "guessing" you can be ticketed for speeding - without any "real proof."

This has got to be the most asinine ruling I have ever heard. This kind of takes away from the judicial saying "Everyone is considered innocent until proven guilty." How in the world can you "prove" a guess?

Ohio has always been ridiculous in the sense of writing speeding tickets. I was once ticketed while driving an ambulance on a emergency call for speeding - 62mph in a 55mph - with my lights and sirens on, and the ticket stood good because I had to pay it.

The court's 5-1 decision says independent verification of a driver's speed is not necessary.

did a cop tell you that?

pretty good = maybe 3-4 mph estimation difference from actual speed, which is almost a different speeding bracket. what are they? 1-10, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25+ idk

In radar school i'm pretty sure you are tested on visual estimates and have to get it right to pass the class. At least for ours you are. Still pretty dumb.

Actually that is how a plane or helicopter for the police departments check for speeders by distance and the time it takes to travel that distance.

I'll try this technique on my next Calculus exam:

"Well professor, I estimated the area, and I was pretty close to being correct, so, why don't you just go ahead and mark that answer as correct"

Dante: [to Randal] You never go ass-to-mouth!
Randal: [to Dante] Would you grow up!
Becky: [to Dante] OK, I'm only telling you this because we're friends, but sometimes, in the heat of the moment, it's forgivable to go ass-to-mouth.
Randal: [chuckling] Ha! I knew it.

Haha...let us know what happens! Don't forget to bring-up the Ohio Supreme Court as backing for your case.

In reality they do if you think about it. The mile markers on every light pole. But in reality this wording of guessing they are using is BS. Guess i wont be going to iowa much

so can trained drunks

before they had the radar, there was the old vascar, where they would time how long it took to get from point a to point b at say 55mph. then station cops at either point and cop A would pick out a car that seemed to be going fast, radio copB and if it was a shorter time to that point, the cat was speeding...

that's alot more fair than 'he looked like he was going pretty fast'
