Apparently RA is very recogonizable

OK, I just had to share this since I got a laugh out of it.

I had put some 35mm pics up at my desk from the NESBA day @ Road America. A lady who works on my floor stopped and asked me if those were pictures of Road America.

Come to find out her husband raced semi-pro back in '89, so by seeing the corner pics I had she remembered what the track was like. Which of course sparked a small but interesting conversation!

LOL

Ciao,
Lupi

Nope Looks like the hubby gave up sportbikes when he got outta the racing. She did go on and on a bit about how she wanted to go and do the Promo laps there next year.

If I recall correctly, RA takes a break during the day and lets people take their bikes out on the track. It's like a couple laps @ 20mph. Not to exciting, but still interesting.

Lupi

Yeah, during the lunch break everyone piles onto the track and does like 6 laps. They say your only supposed to do 40 but people drop back and crank it up occasionlly

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Lupi, Brian told me that his buddy got out on the track for that "Parade Session" at the races. the cruisers stayed to the inside and the sportbikes went outside supposedly at speed.

You'd be surprised how many people know about Road America- sporty car types especially, since the road course has been there since 1955. It's considered the Chicago Region SCCA's home track.

Believe it or not, they use to race in the streets around Elkhart Lake in the early 50's before building the permanent road course.

A friend tells me in the mid sixties, car teams used to unload their race cars at O'Hare airport, and break them in by driving up to the track! The gas stations by the train station in town were used as open garages- Cobras, Ferraris, Maseratis, Scarabs being wrenched on right in the open. I've seen some of the black and white photos from another era- cool stuff.
