I wan'ta know

I've been told that I'm an ass hole in your face kinda guy that wants to set you straight.

And that I should lighten up.

I've been teased by my best friends for scolding people.I don't even think that way.I'm just trying to hold a conversation yet being maybe a little loud and stern I cause some issues.

It sucks to think I'm that way but even my boss of 25yrs says he does not like confronting me.

Is that how you all perceive me?

Gus

i have met you once, at the first quaker steak ride, and you seemed like a nice guy. two things i could tell about you was that you are intelligent and knowledgeable. to the ignorant these qualities can make you look like an asshole. i would not worry what they think. some people just don't want to learn anything. and trying to educate them makes it even worse.

Only time ive talked to you on the phone gus was after my down and to be honest you were very blunt about what you would do (about my upper and lower fork clamps misaligned after the down) and what you refused to do, but you also realized it applogized, and i actually greatly appreciated the bluntness showed your passion for not only doing the job right but also how you care for thoes who ride the bikes you work on.

If your blunt your blunt, as long as your not violent i dont see an issue, this world now a days is full of people who are afraid to tell it like is, and will eiather not say something that needs saying or sugar coat it.

SOOooooo for that, Keep it real homie, ignore what others judge about you and dont lose yourself

Everyone needs a healthy way to relax, mine Church, and two wheels, a stretch of winding road, and a pipe loud enough to give me headaches and make squirrels explode. (Fixed curtousey of PWRMAD)

Nothing is impossible the second we say ill try your already admiting you can be defeated, and the second you say i cant or its to hard youve already failed.

Here is the problem Gus. Direct people get the rap that you are talking about. Some people try to soften a message, some try to sugar coat it, some can't even say what they think because either they don't wanna offend the other person, or they just plain don't have the guts to speak the truth.

You my friend, have none of those problems. You speak the truth. You make decisions with integrity and are CLEAR about what you think are the right way and the wrong way to do things. You speak from a place of knowledge and experience, and you speak directly. Since most people are not like that, when you speak directly it is not what most people are used to hearing.

Personally, I love the way that you communicate, and I respect the heck out of it. For folks that communicate as directly as you do, the only advice that may have any value would be to try to soften what you say just a tiny bit as you say it. That may help it to be received better by the other party. Either way, be direct, speak the truth, and act with integrity. Things that you do naturally.

Just my .02

Very good explanation. The problem is THEIRS, not yours. People are too uptight about acceptance these days, and take everything as an insult.

I'm that guy. Only people who have become my friend, for some unknown reason, will not say I'm an ass. Even most of them will tell you that they felt the same way upon meeting me. I guess I pretty much said "fuck you", but they refused to go away, so now we're friends.

One of the most frustrating recurrences in my life is the unapproachable attitude people have toward me. I always seem to be communicated with using an intermediary - meaning someone who is close to me gets put in the middle. That's what makes me feel the worst. Why can't people just tell ME what it is they wish to say?

I get the same thing from a lot of people but I also admit I'm a little cocky/confident. The way I see it people either understand you and like you or don't. From my experience the latter type aren't worth your time. I've never met you so I can't comment otherwise

Honesty and Bluntness often come off as being an asshole to people just because they dont get that all that often.

I have never personally met you but I would never consider you an ass just for speaking your mind honestly.

Unless you are just walking around to random people on the street and telling them to go fuck their mother, then if thats the case some peeps might take offence and say you are.

But even if anyone does say your an ass tell them to fuck off and deal with it, then at least they have a reason to think that way
