What to do in San Diego?

Marcus and I have about a day and a half of free time in San Diego. What is a can't miss? I've heard about the zoo and sea world, but I've seen animals before. Any recommendations on getting to 'experience' the area in a very short amount of time?

Do the 59 mile designated Scenic Drive through the area. The signs are easy to follow and it takes you through all the major scenic spots.

http://www.sandiego.org/article_set/Visitors/11/338

"Taking San Diego's 59-mile scenic drive is a beautiful way to spend a day. Encompassing a good portion of the city's most outstanding attractions, it can be driven in about three hours. The scenic drive is marked by blue and yellow signs illustrated with a white seagull, which are posted every quarter-mile along the route. Note: Some of the seagull signs may be missing or turned; follow the directions as written."

Go to the MCRD. Though I'm sure you've already been there if you are there with Marcus.

We weren't going to get a car. Should we? Are the area attractions really spread out?

The travel sites suggest we don't go to tijuana, although that was something we discussed. Not the donkey show that is, but the area in general.

I would only suggest it if you already have a car. I would not make the effort to get a car just to do the Scenic Drive.

If you don't have a car and a short amount of time, just grab a spot on the beach and take a walk up and down the coast.

We're going for his little bro's boot camp graduation, but is there something specific we should see while we're there?

Gotcha. They talked about some small, pretty coastal towns to visit, and i'm not sure cab would be the best way to get around. I'm torn on the car thing.

Hotel Del (hotel del coronado) in La Jolla is gorgeous and has the nicest beach area. If you can get in and out to the sand (i think there is a fee for non-guests) it's worth it. That would require some kind of transportation to get to. Maybe 5-10 miles away. I think they have some kind of seal beach in La Jolla as well. La Jolla is like the Bev Hills of san diego. Very nice. All packed into a small geographic area easy to walk around, La Jolla has upscale shopping, great restaurants, beach access, a little park with greenery, etc. La Jolla is probably your best bet if you don't have much time to spend in the area.

I always enjoyed the trolly tours, they take you around the whole city and you can get off on every stop and spend some time. That gets you to the most important places...
Just my The Gas light district has some cool bars and places to hang out.

Forget TJ, if you are going to go south of the border drive the extra 45 min and go to Rosarito.

What Greg said about the Wild Animal Park.

Go up to Cardiff/Encinitas and take a surf lesson at San Elijo State Beach. http://www.elihoward.com/locations/s...tate-beach.cfm

Take about an hour and a half drive to Temecula and go to some vineyards. I recommend Leonesse. http://www.leonessecellars.com/
