Scammers are stepping up their game

I have my iPhone up for auction on eBay, and I get this email form someone out of the country. Not too out of the ordinary, I sell/ship all over the world, but a few things just aren't right.....

Quote:
Dear Mate,
It is so nice viewing this item ads, I wounder if this item is still available for sale? i love your item to send for my cousin in abroad, then I will like to purchase it making an offer sum of $550 for this item. Payment may be through PayPal then i will love you end the auction and send me your PayPal money request for the payment..

Regards..
Jonh Mickeel (PayPal:[email protected])
messanger([email protected])
Tel44 702 401 1881)
-Really? You take pleasure in looking at my ads? That sucks.
-You're willing to pay $550 for an iPhone 3G? That's dumb, but hey, it's your money, i'll gladly take it.

So I humor him, tell him that it is still available, then I get sent these "payment confirmations" from "paypal".

I find it ironic that they used a paypal image talking about privacy and financial information. So after I get these, I play along and I email him back and tell him that as soon as the payments have cleared into my account, I'll send the phone. So I get this in return:

Hello Mate,
this is to inform you that payment has now been made and i you have received the confirmation from paypal that your money have been approved so kindly get the item shipped via USPS EMS International 7daysl and send the shipment tracking number to paypal customer care for verification and get back to me so waiting to hear from you...
This is the shipping address below..

Name:Omolaja Owolabi
Address:N0:20 opp-st Post office Dubge Ibadan

inform you that i will be getting you (600) paid now from my paypal account including the shipment cost and i will want you to get the item off from the listing now and get the item shipped send the shipment tracking number to paypal customer care rep at [email protected] for verification..

Thanks..
SWEET! Now you're gonna pay me $600 for an iPhone 3G. So I send this:

Again, Once payment has cleared into my account, it will be sent and tracking information provided.

Thanks again!
Julian

Then he comes back with:

Hello Mate,
Why delay....i have make the payment for the item and i have been waiting for you to send me the shipment number so that i can mail Paypal about the shipment number for you to have your money credited into your account and i think if i did not hear back from you within next 24hrs i will have to contact Paypal about scam... that you are trying to rip me off because the payment for the item has been forward to Paypal but you have to make the shipment for the item and send the shipment number to Paypal for verification and as soon as the shipment number is verified you will have your money credited into your account with immediate effect ok...Here is the shipping address

When I take over the world, I'm going to give a no-bid contract to Blackwater to go to Nigeria, find these people, and torture them by playing The Ting Tings over and over and over until their ears bleed.

They will then be sodomized by Donkeys.

The sad part is some people actually believe those "warnings". They never catch onto the broken english and quickly send their product.

I've always wondered how the scam works exactly. Now I know. How can people be so stupid to fall for that?

Here's a hilarious story of a bunch of guys on some forums who, after getting an email offer like this from Nigeria, scam the scammers with ridiculously funny results.

In one of the parts, in order to collect the money, the Nigerians were told to go to a Muslim populated area with a sign in Arabic showing insults towards Islam.

Hmm, Haven't seen that one yet, but I don't sell a lot on ebay. If they would refine the English, slightly better embedded photos, it would probably get alot more people.

That is pretty fucking elaborate though.
