Where to buy plane tickets?

Who do you guys use to buy plane tickets? My parents want me to go visit them before I return to work. I usually fly southwest and just use their website but it is kinda expensive. So is there a website that might be cheaper?

Thanks in advance!

Try Expedia.com, Orbitz.com. There are plenty of travel sites out there. AFAIK, you can only book Southwest flights on SW's website.

Shop around. I must say go with Orbitz, but that's because I work for them.

FYI airline prices are going up and it doesn't look like they'll be going down anytime soon. So if you do find a decent price grab it.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

Truth. They are usually cheaper than the discount sites for other airlines, don't forget about baggage fees.

i use priceline a lot but they're all about the same in prices which is the exact same price that you see on the airline's website. it just makes it easier for you to view different schedules of different airlines at the same time.

I compare all of them and buy from the cheapest final price. Often times that does end up being the airline directly versus travelocity or expedia.

Oh, almost forgot. The cheapest day to BUY tickets is Wednesday. I read a pretty interesting article about buying airline tickets online awhile back and UI'll try to find the article and attach it to the thread in a little while.

Maybe it's the routes I fly, but I've never found SW to be markedly cheaper than anyone else.
I use sidestep.com/air to compare prices....but I typically book through the airline. THe only time I use travelocity or orbitz is (1) personal travel and (2) if I am booking a hotel and car as well. You can get sweet savings on the total package.

The best way to snag a cheap far is to find out which carrier is dominates your route. They typically have the best fare. For example, Ohare to DFW?-- can't beat AA. OHare to Atlanta? Delta's great. Etc, etc.

What are the dates, destination and cost of travel on southwest for you right now?

I have 2 round trip flights on southwest (rapid rewards) that I'm willing to sell to you for less than what they cost

PM me with your email address and we can communicate back and forth over email instead of on the board.

I was flying down to Tampa one time and it was cheaper for me to fly out of Milwaukee instead of O'Hare. That flight leaving from Milwaukee had 1 stop also.... at O'Hare. When I asked if I could get the same price from O'Hare, they said nope, you have to fly out of Milwaukee.
