Route 47 between 55 & 57?

To Carbondale, Google Maps says to take 55 to 47 and then to 57 by Champaign. Wouldn't it be faster just to get on 57 from 80? What is 47's speed limit? Is it just a two lane highway?

I would just take 55 to 74 to 57. Its probably shorter the way Google does it, but no one goes the speed limit on the interstate. You should be able to cruise at 75 or 80 without a problem.

What's the lane configuration on 47?

I'm looking for a good constant speed, not a scenic route through towns and lights.

47 is a 2-lane highway. You could take backroads to Peotone at I-57. That's what I usually do:
Take the Wilmington exit (241) off of I-55. Take a left on that road. Follow it all the way to IL-53. Take a right, and then the next left on Peotone road. Peotone goes all the way to 57. It is almost all country roads @ 55MPH speeds, and shorter than taking I-80 by enough miles to be worth it.

I always took 57 when I could, if I wasn't going through Bloomington. 55 between here and 74 is the most boring stretch of road ever! It is always full of state police as well.

I can do that drive in my sleep. I have!
