Anybody ever charter a private jet???

I need to fly 8 people from Chicago Midway to Alton IL to Canton OH back to Chicago Midway. We want to do this trip in 1 day. The Alton stop would be 3 hours and the Canton stop would be 3 hours.

Ballpark, how much?

Aside from picking the first jet charter biz that pops up on Google does anyone have any recommendations?

Yeah, so what is the big deal?

Lots of Part 135 operators out there. Based out of Palwaukee, DuPage and Midway.

Ballpark used to be $2-3k per flight hour (depending upon equipment), I have no idea what it is these days.

No clue on price, but if you must go from midway, go with Signature. An option might be flying from Palwaukee in a turbo prop, it should save you some money.

ZERO benefit to fly a jet for those missions, you might save a few minutes, but that is all. TurboProp is far cheaper. A KingAir 350 should do you or a Cessna 441.

If you wanna go to jet, then you need a mid-size, like any of these:
Hawker 700
Hawker 800
Hawker 800XP
Hawker 850XP
Hawker 900XP
Citation III or larger...
Citation XLS
Citation Excel
Falcon 20
Astra/Gulfstream 100
Lear Jet 40XP
Lear Jet 45
Lear Jet 55
Lear Jet 60XR

Poppin bottles in the ice, like a blizzard
When we drink we do it right gettin slizzard
Sippin sizzurp in my ride, like Three 6
Now I’m feelin so fly like a G6

Thanks for the input guys. I'll start some digging.

Yeah, no preference in jet or turboprop. As long as we can get from A to B to C and back to A in short order I really don't care.

And we have to fly out of Midway. Five of the folks going are flying in from other parts of the world.

Ahh, and no hookers... lol.

You should be able to do all that with that amount of people for about $10K

Like anything, shop it and get a few quotes

+1 on the TurboProp being a better choice and cheaper.....

on a more realistic note, my family takes business trips and vacations from MSN or MKE to cancun, fl or ca etc.

It's a big family think flying 20+ people. would we be better off chartering a plane/jet or flying coach?

Ok, so my first verbal quote came in. This is for a Citation II aircraft flying from MDW to ALN to CAK back to MDW. Flight time is $9000. The lady said I'd need to add another $1000 for catering and taxes.

That sounds about inline with what others have said.

Any other suggestions?

WOW - I was on with the $10K huh? - Use that info and shop around - Not sure of the Margins in this business but I would think with the market kind of hurting, you can get this cost down a bit

Those are long distances so need a larger plane which equals more $. Also, with coach, people have more flexibility as far as flight date and time. Plus, I would not want to be on the hook for organizing an expensive event like that and then dealing with family and/or friends to recoup my costs.

Citation 2 is VERY tight for 8. Check on King Air models. Be sure the operator isn't charging for relocation costs. Skip the catering if possible, it usually isn't worth the incurred costs.

FYI the "G6" isn't an aircraft. A G650 is

G6 is slang for the G650 - Much like in the movie where Tom Crusie says to Matt Maconahey, "A lot of Money and a G5" and he is referring to the G550
