Tax Letter Help

Yesterday I received a letter in the mail from the IL department of revenue. It is an "RUT-25, Vehicle Use Tax Transaction Return" letter. It basically states I submitted a request and it was received, being processed and a check should be mail to me shortly.

Problem is, I haven't submitted anything. I just spent the last 45 minutes talking to 6 different people with no help. Basically, everyone is tell me I must have bought a new car within the last year and over paid on the taxes, which I did not buy a new car. The only thing they could do is take my SS# and tell me how much the check was going to be for and when it should arrive, which I don't care about.

So, can anyone help with this or shed some light on the subject? I fear someone might have stolen my identity and bought a car. Also, what are good steps in checking if someone bought a vehicle under my name or if I'm a victim if identity theft.

Thanks in advance.

Don't give them your SS#

stinks of scam if you don't expect this money.

We offer three kinds of service @ Resurrection
You can pick any two
GOOD service CHEAP won't be FAST
GOOD service FAST won't be CHEAP
FAST service CHEAP won't be GOOD
and cold beer.

I'd love to help but I don't chase parts.
Please contact other forum members and supporters for parts.

So you're complaining about getting money back from the government?

Jk, this is as serious of an issue as you think and you should definitely find the source. Start with the credit check like said above.
