Key West

So it looks like I'm meeting the family for X-Mas down in Key West ...

here: http://www.galleonresort.com/

Having never been there does anyone have any recommendations for what I should do?

So far I know I will be:

  • Drinking Copious amounts of Rum

  • Going Fishing

  • Hopefully Finding Illegal Cuban Cigars

I looked breifly at renting a jet-ski but its so ungodly expensive ($90 an hour) so thats out of the question. I also saw a bunch on Moped rental places online ... but I can't stand riding mopeds, so does anyone know of any motorcycle rental places in the keys?
BTW: If I had my way, I'd be riding down there to meet the family.

Thanks for any reccomendations, or funny stories about Key West.

Go snorkeling the coral reefs. I did over 15 years ago, and I'll never forget it. If I ever go back there again, it will be the first thing I do.

They rent scooters like there is no tomorrow there. Not to much area to ride though, place is pretty tiny.

I think you'll miss the Christmas Regatta, but if not, it's not to be missed.

You won't be in the bible belt anymore, toto.

The fishing thing was neat for a bit, but the big group outings blow. 40 people sitting on benches holding fishing rods starts to suck after a while.

everyone in Key West rides scooters, so you will not feel out of place renting one. You can rent a cruiser from some scooter rental places. Average temp in Key West is 85F so it's nice riding weather.

You can't ride in the Keys... mopeds are the way to go, easy to get around.

Def hit up the coral reef if you can get to Largo... its awesome.

Fantasy Fest is a nice, wholesome, Key West event, but not in your timeframe. Google image search it when you're not at work.
