Who is happy here?

Meaning, Chicagoland area. Pretty sure alot are here because of job, family, etc. If you're not, why not do something about it? I'm trying my damnest to get a job transfer/promotion with my current company to the LA area. Weather here is downright miserable, the roads/riding blows (silly to some, important to me) etc, etc. Maybe some actually like it here?

Anyone as miserable as me?

Happy? No. Content? Sure.

I have a love-hate relationship with being here. Hate the weather, too many fucking morons, the politics, the corruption, etc. But I love my job, friends, and wide variety that Chicago offers (such as food).

Dealing with the traffic in the city just sucks ass.

Don't get me wrong, I think Chicago is a great city, but IMO, the bad far exceeds the good here.

Love the city, hate the weather. I like snow and winter is fun, but I'd prefer to drive a few hours to see it. San Diego is my dream city. Job isn't necessarily holding me back as much as the affordability. I enjoy what I have here, and i'm not sure I want to sacrifice that for beautiful weather.

Been out there plenty of times. That's the first thing everyone says about So Cal. There are areas that are outrageous and there are areas that are very comparable to here. You got to know where to look.

Is the San Diego area really that much different from Chicago cost of living wise?

In the early 2000's a 1,000 sq ft apartment in a gated community was about 1500/mo w/in a 30 minute drive of SD. Pay in IT is comparable to the MW at least for the big cities and with the right qualifications and still not bad in some of the smaller burbs.

I have been out there alot in the past and have many business friends that are in the area. The type of area/home that I live in now I cannot afford out there and the areas I can afford out there I DO NOT want to live in.

We all have different standards though..

I'll be getting the hell out of Chicagoland in a few years. Just gotta wait a little bit now, I don't want to move again so soon (because I'm lazy) and I just started classes and don't think moving is a good idea quite yet. I give myself 3 years max to find a warmer climate that has close to everything I want.
