Metrodome roof collapse

The roof of the Metrodome -- where the Minnesota Vikings play their home games at Mall of America field -- collapsed early Sunday under heavy snow that blitzed the area over the weekend.

KARE-TV in Minneapolis reported Sunday that the inflatable roof caved in and was not visible from ground level.

The Associated Press reports that Bill Lester, the executive director of the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission said the damage was being assessed and that a statement would be issued later Sunday.

The stadium was scheduled to host the Vikings' game vs. the New York Giants on Monday, a game that had already been postponed a day due to the heavy snow in the area.

According to ESPN, Lester said that the roof would not likely be ready in time for kickoff on Monday night. He said that the dome suffered damage to two Teflon panels which are part of the inflatable roof.

The NFL has not issued any statement on the game between the Vikings and Giants.

The University of Minnesota's football team plays its home games at TCF Bank Field, an outdoor facility that opened in 2009. The 50,805-seat stadium could be a make-shift home for the Vikings if needed.

Now they are saying it has "deflated" lol. I guess you could say the Metrodome and Favre's career have a lot more in common. **rimshot**

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

I so hope this is true. I'm getting tired of these humps constantly asking for a new stadium at my expense. Fuck off. Leave.

I'm not a conspiracy guy but find the timing of this a bit suspect. This storm got us about 17 inches, where as the Halloween storm of '91 got 28 inches and the roof held up. Hmmmmmm.

Life has no instruction manual. Parts and labor can be impossible to find. Many go down the road with parts that are in need of service. A breakdown is eventual.

At the beginning of the storn, they cranked the heat up to 95 inside the dome to try to keep the snow from building up so they could play on sunday. I'll bet all that melted snow played a part in the collapse.

I happen to be up in Minneapolis right now. The good citizens up here are all taking turns helping to blow it back up. I'm really out of wind right now. Should be finished soon.
