Social "calling cards"

So my new box of business cards arrived today, and enclosed was an advertisement for "5 dot 1 Luxury Social Essentials," who makes "social calling cards."

"Because we all know that the work day may end at 5:00, but you don't."

Are people really doing this now??

There is nothing worse than talking to an actual female in person, so when I have to, I just give her one of these so she can Facebook me or text me. Person to person contact is so old school.

I had friends that used to do this back in HS. The cards were pretty funny.

This is refernenced in a Beastie Boys song called Lay it on Me.

got Chinese eyes and Chinese suits
Smokin' much Buddha and smokin' much boots
More updated on the hip-hop lingo
My favorite New York Knick was Hawthorne Ringo
Met a girl at a party and I gave her my card
You know that it said Napoleon Bonaparte

Peepin' out the colors I be buggin' on Cezanne
They call me Mike D Joe Blow the Lover Man
Your face turns red as your glass of wine
You spilled on my lyrics as you wasted my time
Girl you should be with me you should drop that bum
'Cause I got more flavor than Fruit Striped Gum
With that big round butt of yours
I'd like to butter your muffin I'm not bluffin'
Serve you on a platter like Thanksgiving stuffin'

If you ain't with us, then it's just bad news.

LMAO

This is such an old concept. Back in the 90's a friend of mine self nick named himself "Holywood", as in the movie Top Gun, and had business cards made representing this. Since this was before email, facebook and etc, he only had his telephone number on there and maybe his pager number. He'd hand them out while we cruised Archer.

Mine says I work as a photographer for a modeling agency. This goes over quite well and the dumb ones never question why my primary photoshoot camera is a cheap Canon point and shoot.

I have a buddy who does this to this day - Has boxes of cards with just his name, cell and email

99% of the time, it goes down like this:

Him - Here's my card
Her - What do you do
Him - Whatever you need done

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming WOW, what a RIDE !!"

My first thought was "ghey".

But I'm one of those unsophisticated South Siders.

When I worked in NYC in the '80s a lot of guys had these personal cards to give out.

Makes your late-night hookups SO much easier when your card doesn't include a work number/job title where people might wonder and ask questions like, "That's not your wife, why are you making dinner plans at a hotel??"

It's your "scouting" camera, keep it straight

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
