Excellent Rider takes on Tail of the Dragon

Nationally ranked racer takes on US 129.

NOT, repeat NOT recommended to do this. I am surprised he didn't get picked up from the video and taken to jail. Anyhow, great video, not so great music...

Hopefully not a repost, but if it is, I don't care. I searched... and it deserves its own thread. I LOVE the video of the suspension full compression, full rebound

Many of us have ridden the Dragon, and I have to say, I have never been there without seeing a bike or car WAYYYYY down in a ditch or down the edge of the mountain.

Dangerous place.

However, this video made me think that they should close it down once a month for the day. Run a track day on it. ONE way one hour, reverse the direction the next hour. Make it a ONE WAY street. REQUIRE FULL GEAR. No close passing.

Charge the riders a $1000 for the day, and donate the monies raised to the local EMT and SAR teams.

Just a thought.

Yeah, there are tons of accidents there. I have witnessed one motorcycle accident there, but I have also seen three on the Blue Ridge Parkway (including a death), one on 74-A that runs between Asheville and Chimney Rock, one on 28 near the gap and one on the Cherohala Skyway. None of these involved a car. They were all single bike accidents and I didn't know any of the riders involved.

One on the Parkway involved three 60 year olds on Goldwings. We had to help pull one of the bikes out of the bushes. Guy ran off the road and fliped his brand new bike.

If you ain't with us, then it's just bad news.

Let's not devolve this into a track-guys -vs- street guys argument.

That misses the point.

Wherever you ride ... you should take into account your surroundings and
ride appropriately. On the street with its "variables" you should leave a little
more margin for error.... yours or someone else's ..... and in the case of
this video it's clear the margin for error is zero.

When your margin for error is zero, and something random happens it can
wind up very badly.

Agreed, but for this guy he may have been riding at 50% of his ability due to the variables. He has $3500 forks, he didnt just pass the MSF.

That guy is a crazy dude with skills. That place is nice but I would never want to ride there knowing that some idiot could pop up from the other side of a blind turn and cause an accident. Taking the risk of getting killed or killing an idiot that loses control on a bike is totally not worth it IMO. I'm not trying to bash anyone that goes up there, but that's just my opinion. Who cares anyway
