I want to get it for the shop, nowhere else. What is the cheapest easiest way? You have to buy a component of some sort, and then a monthly plan? Hook a brotha up.

Get an HD radio instead. Cheaper.

Go to their website and find the link for commercial accounts. You'll pay for the monthly access, plus the music rights fee (public performance) for whatever you get access to.

You might find it cheaper to look into the local HD radio's HD2/HD3 feeds, which are largely commercial free, and which are free, over-the-air radio with at least equal quality to satellite radio. You still might eventually get dinged by ASCAP and BMI for playing music in your shop, though.

You might also be interested in a SCA (i.e. muzak feed) from a local radio station. These are designed for local businesses and some of the local feeds are pretty decent for content. Like satellite radio, SCA feeds do carry a monthly fee, however.

Bonneville Broadcasting (The Drive, and other stations in town) has several SCA (storecast) feeds that are pretty hip. I think there is at least one hip-hop SCA available here in Chicago as well. Your customers might like that. CBS Radio (WXRT and others) also has feeds that reflect their audiences. The big radio players in Chicago are Bonneville, CBS, and Emmis Broadcasting.

(makes them feel OK about borrowing jackets and shit)

Do you have a decent set of speakers for your computer? I think it's only a couple bucks a month more to get it online (assuming you already have it in 1 of your vehicles)

I have no computer speaker setup for the whole shop, and I don't have my Mac there either, just a regular old stereo like they have had for many years. You know, the old school type. So HD radio and XM/Sirius both need a separate component and work similarly?

An HD radio would be a receiver with an amp built in - it would replace your current stereo. XM/Sirus is a receiver that is plugged into your current stereo's AUX input.

Head over to ABT or Best Buy and check this stuff out.
