Computers are crazy. We have a Blue Gene/P in use now with a Blue Gene/Q being installed in 2012 at my work. What's so amazing is that rather than focusing on calculations per second, the scientists designing these systems are focusing on usability, which is exactly what Watson represents. The nation with the "best" supercomputers (however you want to define that term) will have a significant advantage over others in attracting talent and solving the problems that the world will be facing in the near future. I'm glad to see that IBM is still pushing the envelope.
