Quite literally, yes, it's used as a generic for any kind of carbonated beverage sans alcohol.

I've moved away from using it in the past few years as people looked at me like a lunatic up here in Chicagoland.

Soda, but when I was a kid I lived on the East coast. I moved to the midwest when I was 13 and thought it was weird that people called it pop. I felt like I went through a time machine and people were stuck in the 50s or some shit.
