Man the government is slow

So I got a job at the VA over 2 months ago and I still can't actually work. I'm waiting for a background investigation to be completed before they give me access to the systems. So for the last 2 months I've been going into work sitting around for a couple of hours and then going home. Yesterday I get an e-mail and they told me to just stay home until the investigation is completed. Since it came the same day they have there weekly call to find out what progress has been made with all the BI's that can't be a good sign.

So thank's to all the tax payers for allowing me to sit at home with full pay.

Seriously though if this goes on much longer I'm going to be looking for a new job. This sucks.

I'm not short. I'm aerodynamically efficient.

I worked for the VA as a contractor for 2 years and I feel your pain. I advise to be smart about it look at it as an opportunity. Get a bunch of work related books, may be get a Kindle or bring your personal laptop to work. And work on self-education. You may never get another period like that in your life. The most important thing is that you will CYA at the same time (can't access systems, doing what is possible to get up to speed at work, etc) and CYA is the first SOP when working for the fed.

But, man, do I feel your pain . I remember coming to work and waiting for a week before they gave me a laptop. Everything would take forever. When I went back to the business side of things, I thought the world started to move at light speed (the very first day I started, orientation took 30 minutes and I put in over 8 hours of actual, useful work) .

That's exactly what I did. I've read so many tech books lately that I went cross eyed.

Well that was your first mistake

Seriously, though, once you are in the Fed, you're golden. I know this sucks right now but you should thank your lucky stars you're in.
