ha... Back to programming scripts, this shit is so freaking tedious but in it's own odd way quite rewarding once you get something to execute properly!

No, just trying to help streamline you.

If I was enjoying it at your expense, I would not have told you the simplified command.

True Yea I'll have to check it out... You know how these professors/classes are, they like to beat you over the head with the nitty gritty before they tell you there's a short cut that accomplishes the same thing! ha

At this point were just working with some basic scripts and "vi"

Still not quite sure what my over all feelings are towards linux

Yes, they tend to like to do things the round-about way because that's how the book taught them. A lot of them lack true emersion in it to know the shortcuts in the first place

As for linux/unix... if you're used to windows, it's quite a bit..um...different but very very powerful and flexible. Lots of built-ins that make creating things very easy.

Seems more like bash scripting than learning linux. one doesnt really even need to learn linux now that ubuntu is plowing through.

I'm using the Ubuntu GNS3 environment for my Cisco stuff, works pretty well, and a VERY convenient tool!

thats majority of linux class

majority of it is doing the command prompt stuff. Hardly do anything with the GUI.

bash shells
c shell
etc..

scripting
giving people permissions

i think the way they have linux class sucks because it doesn't give you enough of the real world stuff.

thats because people who teach linux class are usually folk who just got their business degree and just got a teaching job or started teaching the class recently. shit is put together horribly. i remember knowing more than my teachers in my linux and web development classes. the one teacher couldnt even tell us what HTTP meant. he made his website with microsoft frontpage and was trying to teach HTML. it had spinning gifs n shit.
