If you are in the vicinity of Chicago and Michigan ave, State. or North Ave. Beach for a night out, watch your back. Large group of 'youths' will text each other and coordinate an attack on unsuspecting tourists or locals. They tend to mull around the McDonalds on state. 2 tourists were recently attacked at North avenue Beach and thrown in the water. They also flash mob the stores on Michigan and loot the stores. The city of chicago was keeping this quiet, but its getting more and more frequent. It centers around State and chicago, but it can happen anywhere. They record the event sometimes on their cell phone.

When the fuck are we going to pass Concealed Carry in Illinois?! This is asinine.

No CCW, no pepper spray, mace, stun guns, knives, tasers.
All are considered concealed weapons and therefore illegal.
How the hell is anyone suppose to be able to protect themselves.

I think you might have more luck chucking a bag of crack at them then running.

As a cheaper alternative, maybe a baggie full of powdered sugar would confuse them too.

So how would you defend yourself from an angry mob that could kill you in a few min just by kicking and punching?

What's your alternative? Let your family/yourself get beaten, possibly to the point of death/disfigurement?

Victims make the criminals job easier.

You going to give up on riding motorcycles for the rest of your life because some hood decides to pop one of your eyeballs for fun?

What is my plan?

I'm going to continue to work really hard, pay my taxes, keep my cell phone charged and try not to ride my bicycle into a group of 100 kids that just happen to be standing together on the lake path.

I will protect my home and my family by teaching them common sense too.

All else fails I'll use my charged cell phone to call one of the billion cops wandering around the two busiest places in Chicago and have them come deal with it.

They aren't running around killing people. They are stupid kids with cell phones. When flash mobs of mastermind heavily armed thugs start showing up in the news I'll reconsider.

If my alternative is to hide in my bunker of a house with my sniper rifle trained on the mailman or anyone else unfortunate enough to walk by... then yeah. I'll survive on common sense for now.

I can't picture the scenarios described in the articles getting any better if people were carrying guns. Perhaps someone could shed some light on that for me?

If I'm at some store and a bunch of kids come in and steal shit - would it help anything if I shot them? Doubt it. Unless it's my store I probably don't give a shit. That's what insurance is for.

If I'm on the beach and I get swarmed and knocked off my bike - do I have time to get my gun? Who do I shoot? How many kids do I shoot before they leave me alone? How pissed off do they get when I shoot their friends?

In the situations mentioned, it seems like CP has the right idea. A grenade would have solved all of the issues - and I bet it's good exercise to ride a bike with a flak jacket on.

Are you serious? Just because its not in the news its not happening? This flashmob thing is just a new name they are giving it. Are these mobs armed? Hmm 2 years ago a peep was shot in the head just off of Michigan Ave, 3 years ago a few pistols were recovered off peeps at the Fountain, hmmm we could go on and on. It happens almost every day these gangbangers roaming downtown....

edit... 2008 two people shot downtown at Taste, 2010 bunch-0-peeps stabbed, 20x? family and mother holding 4 month old was attacked.

So shootings I know happened because I was there.

And a charged Cell Phone (like Underdog suggests).

But the first rule is to avoid getting into these situations. If they start crowding you, get the fuck outta there, call out for help, and if necessary, run like a mofo.

I'm sure this has some down side but I'm of the belief that a quick offense might be the chance you need to flee.

Swing for the fence with the intent to hurt the first fella that gets close and while they freak out because you just dropped their boy you turn and run.
