So how many of you got basement water?

How many of you got water in the basement today? Whether sewerage backup from our wonderful MWRD [Metropolitan Water Reclamation District], or from overflowed sump wells?

I got about a foot of sewerage backup this morning. The stuff was shooting out of my floor drain about 12-14" high for about 35 minutes. Went down after sitting for about half an hour. Left a big mess, which I'm cleaning. Most everyone on my block got about the same. Alderman's office reports much of the ward expereinced sewerage backups. The south-side deep tunnel filled up around 6:36 this morning, then the sewers filled up until the basements got it. Apparently, just like last July, they did not open the locks on the canal in time to avoid this.

And they've spent how much money on that Deep Tunnel project over the last 20+ years to stop this shit from happening? Money well spent.

sump pump kept the crawlspace nice and dry

as for the backing up drains, get yourselves a back flow preventing cap, it lets water drain down but when it comes up a ball closes off the drain and prevents flooding

Excellent. Rep Sent.

And, if you have sump pumps...you should definitely also have a battery back-up for your system.

Back-up's are disgusting and expensive to clean.

No water in my basement on the Southwest Side, other than a couple of small foundation leaks that run right over to the floor drain. I don't even have a sump pump.

Out by midway. Had the basement sealed last year. But last couple days of rain, especially Thursday's early deluge got the basement wet again. At least the wet/dry vac was working.
