Speed Cameras On Tollways

On my way home today I started to get a Ka band radar signal which got stronger as I approached a bucket lift truck working on a pole with a small security cam on it. I noticed that these units were placed all along the tollway. I think they may have had this one turned on while they were working on it. Are we getting ready for Big Brother to start handing out photo-speeders soon on the tollway?

might be for traffic load monitoring (im being really optimistic)
idot or whoever monitors overall flow speed and when significant dropsoffs occur they can go to the cameras and see why adn react accordingly(=

Some states have radar emitters on construction signs just to make people slow down around them...

But this is IL, I would not be surprised if they are turning towards more devious ways to hand out tickets/fines...

One would figure that this would be leaked to the media if it was happening.

My wife just got a ticket in the mail from her visit to Iowa. It sucked, the only good thing about that ticket was that it was not a moving violation and the fine was reasonable. In IL, we probably would not be so lucky.

My guess is a work zone in 3 months.

Edit: article dated 3-3-2005. Still my guess though.

IDOT has come back strongly opposed to the traffic cameras because they are without question a hazard to the public. Cameras placed sporadically along a highway cause erratic driving before, erratic driving before equals accidents. Imagine everyone slamming on the brakes in rush hour on 94.

...that of course doesn't mean that the super smart politicians won't opt for it anyways.

Its about time. I have found after so much travel for work Il people are one of the most ignorant and disrespectful drivers around. I mean 45 in a construction zone for 5 miles isnt going to kill someone. Instead IL drivers clip thru at 80-85 plus, while they sit in the left lane rather then going to right lane when not passing

go time traveler style and go back in time, fuck his grandma, then shoot forward in time and then fuck his mom. Then return back to present state and call him a the product of two incest whores and hes your son and show video of you plowing the both members of his family. .

^^On the highway the "law" is a bit arbitrary. You try doing 60 mph on 294 on a weekend

it's coming. The system has ben built over the last two years. the fiber optic ducts are currently being plowed and bored in, and it will be spliced into the level 3 fiber network this year. I was involved in the project over the last couple years till my recent layoff.

I have a honest question why would every day people give a shit about speed cameras in a construction zone? I mean I give it up to those guys and girls standing out its one scary Mofo with how fast they fly past. Prime example multiple car accidents every day and rather then slowing down and being careful people continue to do 80 past accidents that take up two lanes with no regard to people inside those cars, or laying standing outside of them.

Bet if a memeber was working on those highways in a constructions zone was killed all the complainers would be saying rip my prayer and thoughts blah blah then all of a sudden want to become the pro active type crying they should do this and that.

Couple of years back I tried going 45 on 294 in the construction zone on my bike. 30 seconds later I was 2 gears down running for my life as EVERYONE was flying by me at least 25 mph over what I was doing. I seriously thought that I was going to get killed.

So, fuck the ticket. I am going with the flow from that point on.

really, all they need to do is put out some cones on the grass next to the shoulder, and bam, instant construction zone

should only apply when crews are working, put a flashing yellow out like school zones so we know when they are there

These cams are new and they emit Ka band radar. All the other radar signals from the temporary signs are x band. Ka band is usually used for measuring speed. Might be more accurate or effective.
