Sportbike $value = Raped

What I already knew, but continue to learn......

Buying a sportbike has got to be one of the WORST returns on investment out there!

Resale value vs offers made = Raped! And total horeshit!

I love how you have something like this:
http://www.kbb.com/motorcycle/retail...1000rr/231544/

And you get offers for OVER 1-2k less! And then you get the "Thats what it's worth to me" comment... It's the shitballs like this that will CONTINUE to TEAR down the values of used bikes! Because nobody knows how to just STICK TO THERE GUNS and not GIVE something away! Low ball is one thing... Pathetic offers are another! Where do people get these Numbers from!? ha...

On the other hand, I'm starting to enjoy "Creatively" turning down these garbage offers! The ones in "5k" I make REAL interesting! ha

yeah well didnt Honda blow a bunch of those out for like 8k brand new a while back? Pretty much tanked the value. If it was 8k new and it's 3 years old, it's maybe 5k now.

KBB values have always been way off. I bought a '92 gixxer for $6200 new. It was stolen in 2000 and insurance gave me KBB value...$6500. hahaha Want me to steal your bike? (just kidding about that insurance fraud thing)

And I'm not even stuck on the KBB issue, EVERYBODY knows those values are a bit skewed, and I'm not even listing the bike that high... But you guys that think the bike isn't worth anything over 5 or 6k are delusional!

KBB don't mean shit and determines RESALE VALUE. The dealers go by the BLACK BOOK. That is the BIBLE that all auto dealers use to determine TRADE IN value. And that value will ALWAYS be the lowest value in that BOOK.

EDIT: yes i know i am speaking of CARS but who gives a FUCK?!

Think about your insurance rates when doing your calculation of how long you would like to sit on it.

I could see 6500 being a good price. It is a 4 year old bike and a sportbike that's likely to have beat up (not saying you did). Plus the economy sucks and we have a 5 month riding season.

How many miles are on your bike? If I was in the market for a new RR, I would seriously consider the new one from the dealer before I would give some guy who I do not know the money.

In this economy the market is flush with all types of bikes and very few people have the money to buy them. Absolutely a buyer's market.

You're not just trying to sell your bike, you're competing against the other 10 CBR1ks out in chicagoland for sale by private parties right now. If you want $7,800 for yours and the guy two towns over wants $6k for his with 3x the miles, which do you think will be easier to sell?

With unemployment at 9.1%, how many people would you suppose have $7,800 lying around for a completely ancillary vehicle. This isn't SoCal where it can be a viable option for a year long daily driver.

It sucks, but that's where the market is today- Look how many bikes are for sale on craigslist right now in your price point, would you buy your bike given those options? Now look at bikes that are $2k more than yours, compare them to your ride, show up with $7,500 cash for a bike that's listed at $10k and odds are really good you'll ride it home.

It's only worth what you sell it for... Why get so worked up? The reason people offer 5-6k is because there are people selling for that. You don't have to, but eventually, someone will. If you end up keeping it for another year, the value will drop further. Is that better than selling it for "market value" now?

How is trade in value the case in this scenario? I'm not trading anything, I'm SELLING.....? Therefore retail value = FOR SALE BY OWNER (Not dealer)

Sure your bike might be worth $8k, but not that many people have $8k in cash laying around. Fewer would take out a loan for a used bike. It's the market. You are trying to sell a $8k bike in a difficult market. Ask any dealer, the shit that is selling are bikes priced sub $4k.

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

Maybe I'll just start riding it again then, and put some more miles on it, before I give it away to some "Market dictating clown"

Kelley Blue Book Trade-In Value
Trade-in Value is what consumers can expect to receive from a dealer for a trade-in unit.

Kelley Blue Book Retail Value
The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices for a used unit in excellent condition

so you should expect something in between?
