screen capture/recording

I wanted to make some videos for how to on the PC but I cant find a decent screen capture program that can record properly.

suggestions on a program you have used?

Theres an addon for Firefox that I used to snag music videos off youtube. Cant remember what it was. It was on my old XP rig.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.
