Yeah I'm pretty pissed about this. They just raised the prices a few months back! I could understand if you could stream a lot more content but most of the streamable stuff is useless.

That's bullshit! We'll probably drop them completely because the streaming stuff is mostly crap and it's not reliable anyways. Our library has free movies and lately they been getting new stuff, they day they come out on DVD. There is Redbox also and it's on the way home from work. To raise the cost 50% is a joke.

Sounds like its only a price increase if you want dvd's. Streaming is still 7.99 a month, and just dvd's are 7.99 a month. Price just goes up if you want both. Still tho I hope this means they start putting everything in HD for streaming otherwise you lost another customer.

They won't add the new movies to streaming. Otherwise there is no point for getting DVDs.

They should, they will have competition who will stream everything new. If they don't keep up they will go away.

They are really screwing the pooch! They don't seem tk get that streaming is where the business is headed. Nobody wants DVDs anymore.

I dumped them years ago due to lack of streaming content. sad thing is they have all the cdn servers they need and the network to deliver it. But they are holding onto this old DVD ideal.

Yup! I'd like to sit in on a meeting with who makes these business decisions and determines how much revenue they'll gain compared to how much business they'll lose. Would be interesting.

This is mostly a response to higher licensing fees and an opportunity to get more people on steaming since that is more profitable.

Once the ass hats in Hollywood figure it out Netflix should have a great offering.

As long as Netflix had top gear ill stay.

This

We raise prices all the time on less-profitable parts. We expect to lose a cetian amount of parts when we do this. Once we done we have more resources to concentrate on the more profitable parts. The end result is less parts but equal or greater revenue and better customer service / lead times. It also removes complexitiy from your business. I'm sure netfilix has the same reasoning

Their "less profitable parts" are probally DVDs

(holy cow I used a lot of buzz words in that post. I'm officially a corporate goon )

Heard a report on the radio yesterday that business experts are predicting a pretty big dip in profits and a lot of regret over at Netflix for this move...not that you needed experts to make that prediction.

I will likely drop them. I used to stream a ton and still do more than I watch the blu rays they send me.

I've been meaning to check out other options like hulu plus anyway and it is a good excuse to check them out.

I got the same email.

I'd be fine with the split, if the streaming library was anywhere near adequate. Most of what I've seen hasn't been HD worthy, hell, I'd say a lot of it isn't even DvD quality yet.

If they made it where you could stream the same day you could get a DvD without a que I'd pay the same DvD price and for jsut streaming content. That would blow the water out of their profit margins if they did that.

Ciao,
Lupi
