I say raise income taxes on anyone making under $250K to 60%. That will keep the peons in line. Also maybe Barry can get me a cabinet post. Preferably something in finance.

No, I expect the gov. to create more money out of thin air and by cutting taxes more which fund the tax pool. Makes sense eh?
Just like if someone wanted a new BMW M3 that cost $65K but only had $15K to spend. It would be ridiculous to tell them they need more money to buy it. Can't they just "cut" things out to balance the price.............engine, bodywork, ecu......no reason for them to increase revenue to buy that car.

Right, because people can just "increase" revenue all they like. Maybe that person, were they a business owner, should go tell his employees he needs more money to buy his M3 so all of their salaries will be taking a small deduction....that should go over real well

Actually, that person should be told that the M3 (discretionary spending) is probably not in the cards right now and instead of putting $50k on credit while they're already in deep, DEEP credit debt, they should probably cut that M3 right out of their "Budget" plans and focus on more important things like the mortgage, or the power bill.

Make sense?

Tom

Why not just do a FLAT TAX across the board, regardless of income. That way EVERYONE pays their fair share of the debt. Let's say 25% for everyone. It would probably be less per person once you starting getting 25% of the billionaire's money.

You could also reduce spending by eliminating the IRS since there will be no returns to files since there's no deductions, or loop holes.

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.

What one person receives without working for, another
person must work for without receiving.

The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.

When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work, because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Good luck!

No deductions would kill every business owner out there, large and small alike.

Profit motive....what makes our system different, successful.

Sad really, that so many try to vilify it these days. I knew at a very young age, as an avid history nut, that the profit motive is the very thing that made our economy so great, so vibrant...so creative.

Well, looks like the GOP doesn't have enough votes for its own bill. (Delayed while they whip the Tea Party into line) And its dead in the Senate anyways. Which is good, since the majority of people are against the level of cuts the Repubs are proposing anyways. Polls show the majority wants a mix between the two bills.

Cerk and I can switch sides of the argument now.

He can claim the bill is needed for the good of the country and will help people in the long run. I can claim the Republicans are using their majority by shoving a partisan bill, we don't want, down our throats against the majority.

Seriously though, they need to get their heads out of their asses and compromise.

Can't afford compromise. Can't afford to borrow anymore. It's common sense. If you don't have the income to support the budget, then the budget is out of line.

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Not debating we need budget reform, cut spending, cut entitlements, cut defense, bring the troops home, tax reform. All for it.

There was a good, bipartisan bill on the table that did just that. And the Republicans walked away from it, because they didn't get EVERYTHING they wanted.

Politics at its best.
