Corner workers needed for ccs races @ Blackhawk tomorrow!

CCS is in need of about 5-6 corner workers for tomorrows races at Blackhawk. It's paid, make a couple bucks, get some free lunch, and watch good racing! You'd need to be there by 7am, and not wear red!

Call Butch @ 630-777-0273 for more info as he is there now!

I could be there around noon, but I'm guessing no 1/2 day workers are needed. Wish I saw this earlier I would of been there but now have plans at 9 to 10, could head there right after. PM me if I can help. Might give Butcher a call in the morning.

Give Butch a call! Obviously Vcook doesn't have more details or he would have shared them So he provided Butch's number.

You won't retire on the money, but it beats paying the gate fee to come watch. I'm sure late is better then never. If anything, maybe they would train you tomorrow, work on Sunday or in the future?

Just for a reference, if you never cornerworked with MSC, nor anywhere else, first day is training, no pay (still get in free and a free lunch). After that its $65/day. We need people who are willing to continue to work in the future.

Times are cornerworker meeting at the pavilion at 7:10am until races finish (races MUST be done by 6PM per local ordinance). At the debriefing at the end of each day theres a beer cooler for those old enought to drink, pop for those who arent or that dont drink. On sunday's debriefing, we usually give out a "cornerworker of the event" plaque (same ones racers get for 1st place).

More info on www.midwestsafetycrew.com for what to bring, flagging procedures, radio procedures and hand signals. If you come out, be there at 7 and ask for Dave Fanning. He's the boss.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

I'll call Butch in the morning and see if I can get out to help.

Greg, if you see Butch give him my cell and have him call me or tell him to expect a call around 8-830. Not sure if I will be of much use, but if I can help make sure you guys can race and not all go home with pouty faces cause no one wanted to wave flags at you, I'll try.

Corner working is the best place to watch races from! If you got nothing going on it's worth it just for the viewing.

Big thanks

Thanks for posting this for us Chris!

And thank you to those that replied.

Anyone considering working in the future might want to pm YZFROB for the particulars about how and who to contact.

From my experience as a corner/safety worker, this is the best way I found to familiarize yourself with all the in's and out's of road racing.
IMHO everyone thinking about racing or even doing track days will benefit greatly from corner work.

Yes they do. The problem they have is attracting new workers. Some of the normal staff need to take time off at times and some of the older one's are retiring. This is why we wanted to get the word out here on CLSB.

Corner work is not limited to racing. Track days also need more workers. A full staff of workers makes the safety factor rise dramatically. Workers and participants both benefit from full staffing. Nick, I'm sure you have seen many events when the corner was staffed by a single worker. This is very dangerous for all involved. With a single person trying to flag, communicate, and pick-up, often with their back to oncoming traffic, everyone's safety is compromised. Think about a multiple vehicle incident. Who is protecting the worker? Who is flagging traffic? Who is assisting the riders? Who is calling for help? Who is moving bikes out of the crash zone? Many things need to be done very fast in order to offer the greatest safety for all. Response time can often become a matter of life and death.

Not to mention, you get in free and it is very cool/interesting/fun. For something to do on a weekend = win!

Bingo. Most of us are over 40. Some well over 60. We need to get younger people to step up and get out there. They are looking for people with a love for racing who are willing to come out long term and WANT to be there, not the ones who just show up once and never seen from again. So freaking tired of the "I'll be there for sure" types that never show.

Just for the record, there is a miminum number of workers needed for CCS to race. We dont have enough, no racing period. We've come close before to this.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.
