We were just talking about this. How does after hours trading work/effect the opening price tomorrow?

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

Exactly. You have the 27" iMac right? Give you $200 tonight for it. Goes down to $75 tomorrow and a pair of boots,

Typically, institutions & the super wealthy can use electronic communications networks, or ECNs, operated by online brokerage firms to execute buy or sell orders.

Basically, investors use a limit order, where they specify a price at which they will buy or sell & the ECNs handle it.

Not sure what time today the Jobs news came out. If it was late I wouldn't be surprised to see the price come down a bit before opening tomorrow.

I do not own any Apple products but must give credit where it is due. This guy started a company int the late 70's that was on the brink of collapse in the 90's, they sold computers that only artists use. Meanwhile everyone else (about 95%) of the population used a competing system (PC).
Their stock price was in the shitter and they were sort of a joke just waiting to implode. Then this visionary guy comes up with an idea for a digital music player for the masses. So simple to use that anyone can pick it up and master it in 2 mins. A computer company comes up from the ashes, not by making a computer but a music player. Next he creates a smartphone, again so easy and intuitive to use it rockets them up further, next the iPad. While not as big as the iPod or iPhone it creates a tablet boom from many other makers. Digital music players, smartphones and tablet computers.
They were never the first and many other makers shied away thinking those markets were too mature. Apple somehow entered those markets and reinvented the wheel becoming the leader and standard; dominating each market. And most impressively they did not do it by fighting to be the cheapest, they didn't compromise design and innovation to meet a magic low price. They seemed to set out to make it the best and then price it accordingly. Also genius is how they created demand for the product and then sold it. Totally the opposite from what other companies do by releasing the product and hoping people buy it.
I am not a Jobs' or Apple disciple but I got to respect how he made an empire when it was on the brink of collapse so many times.

20% profit on a $49 iphone 3gs. You going to complain about that?
It's just like anything else you pay for the r&d and the quality. Spend 30 seconds on any windows laptop and then 30 seconds on a macbook pro and you will see the difference. I got mine on sale for 999 and it was worth every penny.
My $500 hp laptop I got a few years back lasted 1 year before a component failed.

It helped but their non-computer business put them over the top and opened up a whole new audience. Almost all iPod and iPhone users I know do not own a Apple computer. Not the same can be said for those who own Apple computers, most likely those people own a iPad or iPhone.

Good point, and something to discuss for sure. I just don't think 100% of the free enterprise system should apply to things that are necessities in this day and age. Healthcare is another topic altogether.

That would be fine if it was all self funded but the ugly truth is that they get billions in subsidies from the government. That is bullshit, if you started a business the gov would not give you $$ to run things and make your product..
In the end it is not in the best interest of the oil companies to find too much oil and build lots of wells. That would flood the market and reduce what they can charge, keep the supply limited and charge more.
This is CLSB for sure...............Starts with Steve Jobs and now ends up on oil
