2012 Ducati 1098 replacement... 1199 / xtreme

DISCLAIMER.... ok It actually looks pretty good, the bottom of the bike looks like RC8 the under tail like a BMW.... Maybe I have to look at one.... maybe not....

ducati 1199 spied again

DUCATI'S new 1199/Xtreme has been spotted again, this time resplendent in trad Ducati red paint, albeit with the bodywork somewhat marred by a huge number of stick-on tabs, presumably as part of the firm's aerodynamic testing.

The rider, complete in Ducati Corse jacket just in case there was any question as to the bike's identity, is either very small or from this angle the 1199 doesn't look quite as diddy as it does in some earlier shots. The angle also reveals more clearly the intriguing semi-external exhaust header running along the side just above the silencer.

It seems that it has to stick out, as any bodywork covering it tightly enough to not impede ground clearance would be at risk of melting from the pipe's heat. The rear cylinder's header is also clearly visible, curling around under the seat before dropping down into the belly-mounted silencer. That's why the rear shock is offset on the bike's left hand side.

The shot also gives the first clear-ish view of the bike's tail, definitively ending speculation from some sources that there could be a further exhaust exit under the seat. Instead the upturned rear end appears to be smoothly finished underneath.

I'm not a fan of the exhaust. That isn't Ducati style. It needs to be under the seat.

I talked to a few peeps, about it and like the look of Joe Lee's but I just need to reduce the fleet, I can only ride one at a time. ( ok right now the half of the bikes are not working correctly half the time... )

and in all honesty it's time for a power cruiser...
