Motorcycle vs police

I wonder why I didn't see this in any of the headlines.
What do you think? Did anyone here know him?
I am usually on the cops side, but it looks like the cop may have been trying to stop the group of bikers and didn't expect this to happen so is lying to save his ass.

I don't think the police will lie, they have camera in the police cruiser. Why the hell is NAACP involved in this? Can't wait till Jesse Jackass say the police profiling the black rider.

Really? It seems to me the tapes are often used in court, for or against an officer.

It would be difficult to "lose" a tape like that since there are so many procedures to ensure their safe-keeping.

The problem here is that I doubt there is a rear-facing camera. So the most a dash-cam would show is the cop pulling around the riders and then slowing down to pull over.

Speculating from Sun Times accounts derived from biased parties are all is available at this time. I don't personally know this trooper but I do know ISP operates and conducts themselves far differently than local departments. I think the officer deserves the benefit of the doubt as the investigation plays out.
One question that hasn't even been asked in the news or by the outside groups asked in to oversee this investigation is what was the rate of speed the bikes were traveling at? That could have a very profound affect on what transpired and could be much more responsible for the incident than any action taken by the trooper.

"Dirt is for racing on...Asphalt is for getting there" OR "Flat trackers go in deeper and come out harder... OR (With apologies to General MaCarthur) "Old motorcycle racers never die, they just slip off the groove and fade into the dust!

Shouldnt he have pulled them over from behind them? Is this a new practice to pull around a vehicle and attempt to pull it over from the front, at highway speeds?seriously?

Truth is, we will probably never know what happened. Only the bikers who saw it unfold and that cop will know.

if a gun and a badge gives you perfect judgement then why don't we all have them?

i have seen cops do some very questionable maneuvers in my day. and i have seen them lie on reports also.

most cops are good at what they do, but like every other group, there are some bad ones.

+1 Also there are three sides to each story. The plaintiff's, the defendant's, and the truth.

I'll bet the cop slowed gradually, then all the riders tried to go around at the same time causing the accident. I doubt they were making truly evasive manuevers. Some of them probably tried to go around and then planned on trying to out run the cop.

I'll bet the cop didn't put on his lights and sirens cause he knew they would run the sec he lit em up.

Also, there is nothing illegal about lane changing and applying your brakes which is what the cop did. This is pointing to the sport bikers all the way 100%.

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

When we were on the ride for Fizz a few years ago, a cop went around me and rode next to the person in front of me and then went slightly ahead of them and forced them off the road. This technique is used often and is very dangerous for the biker.
I have a feeling he tried to force them to the shoulder and it caused the accident. Just my opinion though.

That was an expensive day.

Id take the guess they do that because once you pass the squad car its "evading".

That won't do you any good if it "disappears".

Speculating here but the ISP has had alot of bikes run on them when they've approached from behind the conventional way. It has been a very big problem for them.
Maybe approaching from the front with a move to slow the bikes down is a new strategy in making stops...especially where multiple bikes are involved. Like I said earlier, we have no idea what the riders were up to. What kind of moves they were making or what they were doing in traffic, if they were stunting or speeding or even racing.
They, of course, desrve the benefit of the doubt as does the officer...maybe he was just doing his sworn duty and the incident happened because the riders made bad moves.
I still say...let the investigation play out.
That said...May the deceased rest in peace.
