I've whipped out the phone, shoved it in my crotch, and read texts while riding when the road is clear enough, but actually typing a text is too much. I keep that to stoplights when appropriate...like after i know i'm not gonna get rear ended and when it's a simple yes or no answer.

I don't see how simply glancing at something near my gas tank is any different than looking at other things like my speedometer, a gps or map, or that ass walking on the sidewalk. It's not like i'm carrying a conversation while riding. If it's important i find the best time to stop and tend to it, if not back into my pocket it goes.

Not a good decision. Anything that takes your eyes off the road long enough to *read* something is a baaaaaad way to go. It's even worse if you're fumbling with it using your hand simultaneously.

There's a huge difference between half-way glancing down to check the RPM needle, mostly with what amounts to peripheral vision and reading a text message with a phone laying in your lap that got there by shoving your hand in your pocket while riding a motorcycle.

Minimize distractions, maximize vision and scanning. Period.

There's a big difference in the amount of attention it takes to read and comprehend a text vs glancing at the numbers on a speedo.

Gotta agree with the others, bad move. Limit the texting to while walking on the sidewalk, not riding your bike.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

I hardly ever look at my gauges while riding, let alone try and text. The SV650 didn't have a speedo and it never bothered me.

I look at my gauges quite a bit, but it's very quick glances. You know where everything is, you know what you're looking for...like I said it's almost just peripheral vision after a while.

Why the hell am i explaining myself. I'm simply saying that there are rare times when it's alright and the time in the video was not one of those.
