Isn't Bank of America in tremendous financial trouble? This could be the beginning of the end of them without government help.

I just read that Chase is also testing the waters on debit card fees. It's being tested in a few markets and may go company wide next year.

What if you use it as a credit purchase? They make $ then, will they still charge you a fee? It sounds like it.

Remember Buffet just invested several billion in BofA.

I've got a buddy that works for 5th/Third....I think something like 25-30% of their income comes from fees to customers...it's huge business for them and they will all follow. I think they all the big banks get together and discuss how to generate more $ by zapping the customers and then take turns on who rolls it out first before everyone else follows.

I can't stand BofA...based on previous experience with them. The nice thing...do business with a local small bank or credit union. They won't zap you those stupid fees and will provide better service as well.

I had BofA years ago and they were awful to deal with so I dropped them.

I'm with USAA now, but if they start charging fees like BofA and Chase I'll drop them and find somewhere else to park my billions.

I don't have BoA, but I ditched my debit card about a year ago and didn't look back. After having 2 numbers stolen in a year I was done with it. I use a CC for all daily purchases, bills, etc and pay it off at the end of the month. It makes it easier to dispute charges as well with no cash out of my pocket.

Hey...you figured it out.

The only way you won't get charged the fee is for ATM withdrawls from BofA locations....any purchases...yes you will get charged the $5 fee.

This is one reason why I stopped using my debit card. Now I used a Miles by Discover card for everything, and each Friday I pay it off. I get the miles and don't pay any interest.

I bank with 5/3 and Chase and neither have any monthly charges................although my Chase account has been in existence since 1990 when it was some other bank before first chicago bought it, so I am grandfathered in on a lot of stuff. Im on like check number 8500 on that chase account!

BOA can burn in hell. I hate them with a passion, I have had nothing but problems with them. Right now I have chase and so far so good. Only complaint is they stopped the rewards program with the debit card which sucked because I was racking that up for awhile.

Yah I heard about this in the last couple days. Complete bull. I know chase has been experimenting with a $3/month fee. But in certain markets I think.

Wasn't long ago there were commercials trying to get us all to use our debit cards for purchases. Oh well...

The Only way to fly. No debit cards, just use credit card and pay off full balance monthly, before interest kicks in. Full protections of the Fair Credit Act and no being jacked around by the bank.

It's just like with ATM's. They taught us to use them and saved a ton on teller wages, then after we got used to them, they start to charge us for using them. Rinse, repeat with Debit cards.

Craig

Probably because most checking accounts are already an interest free loan to the bank.
