Flat Panel TV Calibration

I recently bought a new plasma and am looking for any local hook-ups to have it calibrated. I am currently using the calibration settings from Cnet and it seems pretty good for now. I'd like to get it professionally calibrated after about 500 hours of use.

TIA!!

Unless you're looking to spend a couple hundred dollars, you can do 95% of what a pro can do with a calibration DVD. You can get one at Amazon for about $35 if I recall, or I can loan you mine if I can find it.

Just use the settings you found on cnet if they were done professionally. I have been using the settings that I found on a audio vid forum that someone posted after having their set calibrated and they work great. The set should not change, been using the same settings since 2007 I think, looks great.

Why do I need to calibrate a plasma? I never knew I had to. I just pluged it in out of the box.

out of the box the image settings are so crazy it's hard to even watch. calibration gets it close to what it should look like. Most people leave them the same as out of the box which is why most people's picture looks like shit.

You don't have to do it. It works fine out of the box. Its all personal preference. I really like watching movies so I spend a fair amount of time getting the picture how I like it. You miss incredible detail with a washed out picture like most of the new flat panel monitors are set from the factory. Colors are off, brightness and contrast are set to show best in the 1000 Watt HID lights in the big box stores.

Especially with the LCDs. Our LCD will make you motion sick with the Auto-motion turned on. Its totally nauseating.
