Oh man do i suck

Hydroplaned on 294 sunday morning...boy was that fun. A few weeks ago i had a small slip and fall in the rain. Just a minor fall...picked it up and made my way to school. I wish i could say i learned from that one.

This time i was riding in a straight line at about 50 mph and next thing i knew the front tire lost grip, regained it, then sent me into a tankslapper. Rear tire kicked out and down i went.

Didn't end up that bad. I'm perfectly fine, and the bike needs the normal shit like turn signals, headlight, and handlebars.

I thought it was pretty cool how calm i kept through it all though. I remember the whole thing and what i was thinking. I remember seeing the bike slide by me and thinking "Oh hey look my big ass top case is still intact." It broke when the bike hit the median though. I also remember telling myself to try to get my legs off the ground because of the lack of protection. Ended up sliding facedown on only my feet and forearms.

Yup...too fast. It wasn't raining hard but there was still too much standing water from the slight crown in each lane and lack of traffic to push it away.

Should have finished off that super fly skid with some spider walk and a back spin. Glad to hear you are ok.

Dont' be afraid to ride in the rain, I do it all the time. As for hydroplaning, you can still go fast (in a straight), just don't do sudden accelerating or decelerating.

Anybody who would suggest you not riding in the rain is not a real rider, but a poser. Probably the same people who already put their bike up because it's "too cold".

The only valid excuse for a real rider not riding in the rain is having to clean and lube the chain.

Just keep the front tire in the air!

Seriously, weird stuff can happen anywhere, anytime, in any conditions. About five years ago I was leading a group at about 90mph on a strait country road trying to get around traffic before some turns, and a guy on a brand new GSXR went into a tank slapper out of nowhere. He saved it, but he was almost too scared to ride home. Glad you're still around to post about it!

.
Worst advice ever. You can still end up on your head in a straight line without accelerating or decelerating. You are never perfectly balanced on a motorcycle. There will be weight bias to the left or the right, and if you hydroplane with enough severity, the tires can come out from under you without sudden or abrupt control input.

I was literally riding in a straight line at a constant speed and the front became light for a split second and suddenly started shaking violently. Besides going slower or simply not riding, there was absolutely nothing i could do to save it.

Thanks for the input everybody. The fall didn't bother me nearly as much as it did my mom.

Right, right...

Let's run through a quick list of all the accidents you've been through just this summer.

1st near miss on 6/13/2011: https://www.chicagolandsportbikes.com....php?p=1940808

2nd accident posted on 6/11/2011: https://www.chicagolandsportbikes.com...3&postcount=11

3rd accident, 2 months after the one above: https://www.chicagolandsportbikes.com...0&postcount=14

The only thing that kept you away from your 4th accident is when you screwed up your wife's brand new car and were busy trying to repair it: https://www.chicagolandsportbikes.com...d.php?t=115481

Wow are you wrong! Tcmalker only had two accidents (2 months apart) and countless near-misses. Been pulled over twice (once two nights ago), and received no tickets. I have videos of the pull-overs if anybody's interested...

Eh. I stopped racing in the rain if I wasn't chasing points and generally cage it if it's raining before I leave. If I get caught in it, it's no big deal- just have to be real smooth, increase braking distances.

One of our best endo races (CMRA big bike endurance) last year was cold and wet @ Eagles Canyon north of Dallas. We took third because we were one of the few teams that wasn't intimidated and could ride in the stuff. The poor Texans rarely get much practice and cannot ride in 45F!!

BTW I'm finishing an engine swap on my 07 Mazda 6. Got to get that sucker on the road before the real bad weather hits. I ride from Gurnee, to Downers Grove everyday on 94-294-88 but this morning had to ride to Millsdale (refineries south of Joliet) - 90 miles on way...

Shit happens, I almost balled up a bike with traction control on a gentle sweeping right hander, I was coasting along with the thing barely leaned over when it hit some powder something or another on the street and both tires started sliding, I've got pictures of the skid marks on the tires all the way around where they were sliding. Just about ate shit coasting home from work on a 70deg sunny day.
