Very tempted by it, but not enough to buy an xbox or ps3 to use it. Seems like a great concept though

This is what I've been looking for. I expected something like this about 5 years ago!

Edit: Just added it to my Birthday/Christmas list.

I've got about a few guitars around the house...

The concept is really late in coming.

2003-ish "Hey, so Guitar Hero is a really popular game.... What can we do to make it better?"

2008-ish "ROCK BAND! IT'S GUITAR HERO WITH DRUMS AND SINGING!"

Late 2008 "Hey, so Rock Band is a really popular game. It's really inspiring kids to go out and learn music. What can we do to help them?"

2010 "ROCK BAND 3 HAS PRO MODE. NOW WITH REAL DRUMSETS, REAL GUITARS AND HARMONY SINGING"

Late 2010 "Huh, Rock Band 3's doing pretty well. Maybe we can take the educational concept and slap a $200 price tag on it, and throw in a shitty electric guitar...."

2011 "ROCKSMITH! LEARN HOW TO PLAY GUITAR ON A GAMING CONSOLE!

You'd think someone'd already have up with the concept, and he was just getting pushed aside every meeting up until RB3.

Agreed, but you can get a cheap acoustic guitar and a program for $150. And even that'll pull endless amounts of pussy.

But also, this is all you really need to learn.

This game looks bad-ass. The 1/4" to USB adapter is what I've been waiting for for years, as a console would make a great platform for effects processing and better-than-tabulature instruction.

This just moved to the top of the want list above BF3/MW3/Forza4 (and may even replace them). Awesome.

My friend from highschool is an EE and came up with a program to make your guitar controller into an actual instrument. He's been a music buff forever too.

He has a band too called The Guitar Zeros out in Cali. Not really a fan of theirs.. but it's still kinda cool that they played gigs with them.. heh.

The code is free and you can do it yourself if you want. Website looks old, but the how-to info is there (bottom link).

Here he is being interviewed a while back and shows how it works:

This game got some mixed reviews. I was planning on picking it up but am waiting to see what more reviews say. Joystiq says it's neither good at the things Guitar Hero style games are good at and it isn't good at teaching you guitar.

Some people are saying the load times are long and it must reload the song each time you play.

My personally, I think the track list is lacking. I don't know half the songs.

Got it and it's awesome. I suck at guitar but my fingers are sore after about an hour of playing. I'm 10x better in the last hour than I am after trying to teach myself watching youtube and reading a stupid book for the last 6 months.

Brianne had a $50 BB gift card, so she went out and got the game after I showed her the You Tube videos. She's playing it now, bitching about every little thing.

I think I'll go hide in the garage.

You mean Yngwei J. Malmsteen.

You can't forget the "J", otherwise people confuse him with all the other Yngwei Malmsteen's in the business.
