Indianhead Park girl's murderer arrested

they have officially arrested the guy who murdered a 14 year old girl in indianhead park. To bad we don't have the death penalty.

John L. Wilson Jr., 38, of S. Lafayette Ave. was charged Friday with first degree murder and armed robbery in the stabbing death of Kelli O'Laughlin, 14. Wilson was denied bond in a court hearing Friday morning.

Police said the suspect in the case broke a back window in the home using a rock in a knit cap and was robbing the place when O’Laughlin came home early from school. According to Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez, O’Laughlin was stabbed in the back, neck and chest before she was found by her mother.

Police were able to recover DNA from the cap, Alvarez said at a press conference Friday, and they are reasonably sure the profile matches Wilson’s DNA.

Stolen from the home was a bowl full of foreign coins, the victim’s cell phone and an iPod Touch. Using the victim’s cell phone, the suspect sent “taunting and disturbing messages” to her mother, Alvarez said.

Wilson was seen in the area of the home between 2:45 and 3:30 p.m. the day of the murder by three witnesses, Alvarez said, who all positively identified him in a lineup.

FOX Chicago News was also the first to report the suspect was tracked after it was discovered he took a cab from a 7-Eleven in Willow Springs , roughly four miles from the victim’s home. He paid for the cab with foreign coins, and was dropped off near the Orange Line at Midway Airport.

On the day of the murder, a Willow Springs police officer stopped the suspect walking in the area. The suspect told the officer his car broke down and he was going to get a cab. The officer was off work for several days, and when he returned he saw the composite sketch in the case and realized it was the same man he had stopped.

The suspect was also tracked using his personal cell phone, Alvarez said.

The murder weapon was a butcher knife from a knife block in the house, and it was found next to her body, Alvarez said.

Cook County State’s Attorney Sally Daly said police believe Wilson acted alone.

Wilson is a convicted felon who was on parole since last November, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart said, and one of his prior convictions includes an armed robbery. Of the last 20 years, authorities said, he only spent three out of prison.

Alvarez said they had no indication that Wilson had any prior contact with the family and were unable to speculate why he picked that home to rob.

“Any of us would be horrifically naïve to say true justice could be done here. Kelli has been taken from her family, and taken from everyone,” Dart said Friday.

Had Illinois not abolished the death penalty, Alvarez said this case would have been elligible and prosecutors would have sought a capital sentence.

While the suspect appeared in court funeral services were held Friday morning for O'Laughlin.

There was an outpouring of support for her and her family as friends and other community members lined the streets leading from the funeral home to St. John's church in Western Springs where she was finally laid to rest.

A buddy of mine lives right over there. He was just in the shop talking about this. There had been a bunch of burglaries in the area over the past year or so. People saw this asshole roaming the neighborhood that day but nobody called the cops about him until after this happened.

Hopefully it doesn't take too long for some other prison inmate to rape and kill this animal.

another problem is he has a huge arrest record. I would like to see Illinois do max sentencing and none of this BS parole crap for career criminals. I busted one guy with 70 arrests in his life time. just lock them up if they are no use to society.

guy needs a needle in his arm for killing a little girl

I used to work on all the residents garage doors over there. It's a very small, quiet community with a lot of elderly people. Not somewhere that you expect this to happen.

Guy needs a rusty knife to the body slowly and repeatedly until he is drowning in his own blood.

Yep, I heard about this the other day from a buddy that works down there. Supposedly he was sending texts to mom saying shit like "your daughter wouldnt listen, it's her own fault she's dead", etc etc. he should hang.
