cafe racers

has anyone built one? if so, post a pic...

how complex is it to do and what would be a budget for a beginer?

what are some typical problems/hurdles one would encounter?

You can spend 1500 or 15,000 depending on what you want to do and the condition of the bike you are working on

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming WOW, what a RIDE !!"

Go check out some build threads on some cafe racer forums. I'd recommend some sort of old Honda twin. They're relatively cheap and parts are everywhere for them.

Some helpful ideas can be had from Chad at Ace Motorcycle & Scooter. Also, Ed at Morrie's Place both of whom have built or helped to build numerous Cafe Racers.
The season has wound down but watch for Ton Up Club events after the first of the year. Our President in conjunction with Ace (and possibly Cafe Racer Magazine) puts together a very cool display at the International Motorcycle show.
Then there's the April Walneck's Woodstock swap meet, Motorcycle Mondays that start the first Monday in May at the 5 Star. Rockers Reunion in May at Ace, Mods vs. Rockers on the Saturday before Father's day and a host of other Cafe Racer oriented events.
For info about the Ton Up Club go to www.tonupclubchicago.com.
Also...You're invited to attend any upcoming Chicago Norton Owners Club meeting. The older guys in the CNOC were around when Cafe Racers were a brand new thing and forgot more about them and old Brit bikes than most of the younger newbies will ever know! AND...they LOVE to pass along any info or knowledge to anyone who wants to build and preserve old motorcycles! You can get all the info @ www.cnoc.org. The long time meeting place has closed and we've been meeting at the Sunmist Restaurant on Lake street but that could change so if you plan to come check the website for up to date info.

"Dirt is for racing on...Asphalt is for getting there" OR "Flat trackers go in deeper and come out harder... OR (With apologies to General MaCarthur) "Old motorcycle racers never die, they just slip off the groove and fade into the dust!

If you want to anger a conservative, tell him a lie. To anger a liberal all one must do is tell the truth!
