Recommendations for where to get Car Painted?

Folks,

I spoke with Ody, and showed him my Mitsubishi Galant. Apparently Mitsu had a bad batch of clear coat on quite a few cars.

Anyhow, my silver Galant needs to be repainted. Was curious where is best REASONABLE place to get it painted and looking like a car again.

I have checked into Maaco, Gerber, Earl Scheib... anything else I should look at?

At the moment, reviews say that some Maaco's do a good job, and some suck. SO... looking for a place to go, and spend hopefully less than a $1000, that is what Maaco estimated.

I assume a 2-stage is the right way to go.

Anyhow, look to your thoughts, I want to get this done in the next week or so.

Thanks!

You aren't going to get a good paint job for $1000 or less. Maacos paint jobs are somewhat ok if you do the entire prep work yourself and do all the taping etc.. Otherwise they just spray and you will find overspray in the wheel wells ane everywhere else. May last you a few years.
What year galant btw? I had a 95 that had crappy clear

Car isn't worth 2k, so not gonna spend a ton on the paint.

Wink check with Biggers Chevy in Elgin. 847-742-9000 The price will probably be higher, but I've had a bunch of stuff done there over the years, and have been happy.

Tredups in South Elgin came in suprisingly low on an estimate we got last month. Lots of people in this area us them as well.

Both of those places are probably going to be more than you want to spend, but might be worth the call.

Maybe they have and apprentice who needs some practice, and could set you up.

Have you considered wrapping it in vinyl? Isnt there a shop in Lombard/Villa Park that Hix used for his bike?

If the car isn't worth $2k, why bother? Or is this a gift/loaner for a family member?

If you ain't with us, then it's just bad news.

Car runs great, we have had it for quite some time, and it has no problems. Intent would be to give it to Stephanie (daughter) or have it as a spare. It is paid for, no problems... etc.. trade in on it would be zilch.

Quite frankly, my biggest issue is spending money on it, but it runs great and in great condition other than paint.

If I owned Hix Racing and it could tow to the track, that would be a GREAT idea!

If I had something to market, that would be a fun thing. Perhaps I could let CLSB pay to wrap it and then I cold drive around advertising for us!

If it an old car , just have a Maaco spray it . They have deals for around $600 . Its going to look fine for a couple of years . I did this to a Neon , came out ok .

Hey bri. I have a friend that paints out of his house if u want me to contact them. They restore cars and I can tell them what your looking for. They r right in sycamore. I'm assuming it's the roof, hood, and deck lid that's spotty as that's how mine was.

And yes, 2 stage is what u want. Single stage is just paint. 2 stage is with clearcoat added on

...plus my gf was with me saying "omg slow down, slow down" and I was thinking "Lose annoying squalk box in passenger seat, afford more mods and have less weight in the car and on the back of the bike"...so i dumped her and I'm single again as usual...HERE KITTY KITTY!!!

That might work, there was a local guy near me that was going to do it, but he closed up shop 2 months ago.

I am looking for same. My wife's 98 Eclipse has the same problem with the clear coat. The problem is I don't want to spend a lot of money on a car worth $2K, but, the Eclipse has only 45K miles and is worth $0000 on trade-in. Keep me posted what you decide, I am very interested.

Better idea, just have a wrap done on the whole car. cover the old paint up.

CLSB graphics would look good.

and yes... where the HELL is the full size image of JRSmails avatar?
